Republicans flummoxed in Alaska
Republican Governor Parnell wants to eliminate the gasoline tax for a year or so (about nine cents a gallon) Says highway maintenance would not suffer. Representative Young says if he does that the Feds may decide to reduce Federal Highway funding to Alaska. The pull yourself up by the bootstraps Party wants to suck the Government tit and not pay anything themselves. Liberals are not for the tax cuts and agree with Young that the Feds should withdraw funding if the State chooses to eliminate their share of the expenses. What a dilemma for them. Tax Cuts and lose Government highway funding or , heaven forbid, pay their own way and enjoy some government assistance as well..Republicans sure want their cake and eat it too..

3. Go, Feds.. It's high time to show these libertarianesque states
that removing state taxes will not be met by INCREASED federal aid..

Welfare-states need to first show that they are at least trying to support themselves.

Especially states that run to Papa for disaster aid, year after year after year, when they refuse to tax their own citizens. Choosing to keep "low-low- (NO)-taxes as a come-on, to lure businesses from other states, while asking the citizens of every state for support, aid & subsistence, is wrong wrong wrong.

4. Plus, Parnell wants to build a 2.7 billion dollar road to Nome.

"JUNEAU -- A new state-funded study says a 500-mile road to Nome championed by Gov. Sean Parnell could cost nearly $3 billion to build."

5. I actually like roads
I live in Juneau and would LOVE a road out of here. Not that I would want to leave but it would open a lot of area for sightseeing and picnicing, and fishing and hunting plus just being able to go for a drive someplace other than the forty miles of road around Juneau. So I have no opinion on a road to Nome.

8. I lived in Juneau for two loooong years.
Building a road to Juneau makes as much sense as building one to Nome. I say, invest more in the ferry system before building a road.

6. Even with the check each Alaska person gets each year
I sure would not want to live in that state. I think it is the crookedest one around.

12. The Republicans up here are a laugh a minute.
Remember how they were whining that if Mark Begich were elected Senator, he wouldn't be able to bring home the federal money like Uncle Ted was able to do? Now they're all about "keep your fed paws off my state." It must be really hard to live inside their brains.
