Latest PETA protest: Groundhog Day and Punxsutawney Phil
These whackjobs and extremists are at it again, all in the name of "animal rights," of course:

An animal rights group wants organizers of Pennsylvania’s Groundhog Day festival to replace Punxsutawney Phil with a robotic stand-in.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it’s unfair to keep the animal in captivity and subject him to the huge crowds and bright lights that accompany tens of thousands of revelers each Feb. 2 in Punxsutawney, a tiny borough about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. PETA is suggesting the use of an animatronic model.

But William Deeley, president of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, says the animal is “being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania.” The groundhog is kept in a climate-controlled environment and is inspected annually by the state Department of Agriculture.

Never mind facts. PETA isn't interested in facts, only publicity for their deranged agenda.

3. They're competely batshit--excuse my specieism
It's all about denying people the right to have domesticated animals because of some screwy philosophy originally put forward by world-class asshole Peter Singer.

They hide the truth about what they are really about by trying to promote themselves as caring about animals--they don't.

8. They came up with breast milk ice cream a few years ago
They wanted Ben and Jerry's to start using it instead of cow's milk.

10. People Eating Tasty Animals?
As a member of the KARN association, this idea is preposterous and insulting and PETA should be ashamed of themselves for putting our children at risk.

11. Actually, I've always been bothered by that spectacle.
The poor groundhog is essentially terrorized once a year for a photo op and tourist dollars. But don't get me started or I'll go off on a tangent about zoos.

13. The groundhog is treated far better than many kids.
This nonsense about animal "exploitation" needs to stop.

I fucking hate animal "rights" groups because they don't care one bit about animals.

16. I am a proud card-carrying member of PETA !!!
Just this week they were responsible for the largest confiscation of abused animals ever!

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2009/12/17/jvm.issues.exotic.animal.deaths.cnn

THANK YOU PETA.

if their stupid stunts that are only designed to get attention bother you, I think that's pretty shallow. Look at how many animals they have saved and how many horrible operations they have shut down.

19. Dumbasses don't want to hear none of that now.
Especially not people that 1. hate animals and 2. hate the very notion of any kind of animal welfare or rights.

18. I think hard to connect to nit-picking distracts from the big issues
and makes the whole movement too easy to laugh off.

Odd tactics from that group, in my opinion.
