Dems rebuke Giuliani over attack comment

WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidates on Wednesday rebuked Republican rival Rudy Giuliani for suggesting that the United States could face another major terrorist attack if a Democrat is elected in 2008. The former New York mayor did not back down.

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) said Giuliani, who was in office on Sept. 11, 2001, should not be making the terrorist threat into "the punchline of another political attack."

"Rudy Giuliani today has taken the politics of fear to a new low and I believe Americans are ready to reject those kind of politics," Obama said in a statement.

I honestly believe that if the Dems regain the White House--and I'll take flames, I don't care--the efforts of the Wingnut Machine may kick into full gear to a level unseen before. We already had a teaser of this with Oklahoma City, the anthrax attacks that just so *happened* to target two prominent Democratic senators, and let's not forget the well-financed campaign to sabotage the Clinton Administration with a constant barrage of hearings, special prosecutions, accusations, etc. And let's not forget the great Coup d'Etat of 2000.

Tongue-in-cheek? Possibly. Tinfoil? Perhaps, a little.

11. Yep. Rudy's poll numbers right now are high, but over the summertime
I think they will begin dropping. As the fall comes on and the 2008 winter primaries draw closer, I think Giuliani fades faster from the presidential race than anyone expects.

He's a poor speaker with a thin skin and not much range.

5. I agree with John Edwards
Edited on Thu Apr-26-07 04:01 AM by Nicole
From the article the OP linked:

Edwards, the 2004 vice presidential nominee making a second run for the White House, said it's wrong to suggest Republicans are better at fighting terror.

"The current Republican administration led us into a war in Iraq that has made us less safe and undermined the fight against al-Qaida," Edwards said in a statement. "If that's the Republican way to fight terror, Giuliani should know that the American people are looking for a better plan."

6. Rudy's an imbecile
But we're going to get attacked regardless of the administration. With what we've been doing the past six years-war in Iraq, standing on the side of Israel regardless of merit,etc-and not doing-creating partnerships to mitigate terrorists, inspecting cargo, shoring up security at nuclear plants etc.-we have created a situation in which getting attacked is a statiscal likelyhood.

And then, if it is a Dem administration, the people who cheered all this on will say, this is what happens when you elect a Dem.

That's why all right-wing nut jobs must be detained for questioning after we win.
