1. Medicare Advantage was a big giveaway to the insurance companies
under Bush. It would go away under some versions of HCR but I'm not sure it was in the Senate bill. Sounds to me like it was one of your state's senators...

3. The call -- or the organization the caller identified, is in DC. I think both
my Senators usually do the same thing (Murray and Cantwell) so maybe they didn't fine tune the message for each state.

I def got the impression it was the big bad Insurance industry behind it (although I didn't listen longer than my post indicates). It just infuriated me because if people aren't aware of this, they hear "$1 billion cut/Medicare" and that's all they'll take away from this. Why can't we get Robocalls disputing these?

8. I post it all the time. THAT'S WHAT'S PULLING MEDICARE DOWN
My Health Care Clinic says that they are outrageous. And to top it all they have bills for at least three years that Advantage has not paid. There might be some of those plans that are OK. But those that aren't are giving the whole system a bad name. Our Clinic will not accept any of them now. Only regular Medicare. I wouldn't change when they gave you the choice. I had a suspicion that they were going to rip somebody off. If the republicans voted for something with a social platform there had to be a catch AND I WAS CORRECT.

12. Does your clinic accept the medigap insurance offered by AARP?
I'm looking into it for the time when my husband's policy provided by his union will end and we have to find another medigap insurance.

I opted not to get Advantage when I became eligible.

I don't want to pay for anything that's "iffy"

2. Good. Because the US government has be subsidizing insurance companies pedaling Medicare Advantage
for years.

http://articles.latimes.com/2009/aug/19/nation/na-medicare19

"The program, known as Medicare Advantage, pays insurance companies a hefty premium to enroll senior citizens and provide their medical services through managed-care networks.

When congressional Republicans first began expanding private insurance options for Medicare in 1997, advocates argued that the plans would actually deliver services more efficiently and hence less expensively.

The plans now cost the government about 14% more per person than does regular Medicare, according to a recent analysis by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, which recommends reimbursement rates to Congress."

4. I know -- but my concern is that most people don't realize that, they'll only
hear $1 billion cut in Medicare, and get in line behind the Repubs (read: insurance industry).

6. Either that or
They'll get on the phone and scream at their reps not to vote for Obama care. I think seniors may be most susceptible to this, which figures.

BTW, at 61, I'm kind of a senior myself.

7. I'm 57 and my brother is 62, but he's not on Medicare. But I think of my
parents (who both lived to a ripe old age) and they would have been terrified if they felt their benefits were being cut. So I agree, it's the seniors who are being targeted and again, it's those hateful, profit-driven fear-inducing tactics these companies are using. :grr:

10. Got one of those calls yesterday...
here in south central Oregon. Robo-dialed, taped message by a sprightly young female voice(went so fast that it was hard to understand her). Medicare is not the greatest...but it is and has been a tremendous help. As a result, I didn't join any of the alternative plans including Med. Part D. That last is pure scam.
