How is is that the Rs are getting what they want, while the Ds are in power?
Continuation of wars for profit.
Guantanamo still operating.
Trillions to the bankers and other bailouts.
Health insurance reform shredded.
No progress on climate change agreements.
National security jitters.
2 R governors elected.
1 Ken doll placed in Ted's Senate seat.
Corporations given vast new power.

And this during a period where Democrats hold the majority in both houses of Congress and sit in the White House... is there any possible explanation?

8. So the DLC decided, for the Democratic party to survive, it has to be the Republican party
isn't that more or less the same as surrender?

It's not surrender, it's being agile and keeping democrats in power!

28. If you think DLC wants the Democratic party to survive, you have a great deal to learn
about DLC.

3. Because Rs have party discipline
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 10:16 PM by Codeine
while we eat each other alive over our own legislation. Rs recognze that they are a group with shared interests, while Ds want to fight over every petty difference.

We're disorganized.

11. Well that's been a long-term problem.
I guess I do admire the Rs for being able to all push in one direction at the same time, and for standing behind their leader no matter how loony, sick or demented that leader is. I have one R friend and from listening to him, I believe a lot of Rs were privately and quietly dismayed and fed up with GWB but just kept their mouths shut about it publicly.

4. gotta give it to Rs, they stay motivated
Look at DU - without perfection, many give up.

Rs never give up, even when they are nowhere near getting what they want, they still press on. they don't cry that they are betrayed by the R party. They keep on keeping on.

6. because most of the Ds
are really DINOs.. who care more about corporate interests than the American people. Our only hope is to vote out the DINOs/DLCers and replace them with real progressives... but after today's USSC ruling, I don't see that happening... :(

some portion of our elected Democrats are non-ideological bi-partisan-loving money-grubbing whores who don't work for the american people, but for the new elite Super-Persons: the Corporations.

13. There are different reasons for all of these.
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 10:25 PM by tabatha
They cannot be all painted with the same brush.

Continuation of wars for profit. - You need to read Juan Cole's lates post on Obama winning the war in Iraq; and to listen to what Dean said in an interview on BBC about Afghanistan - Obama is right on both.

Guantanamo still operating. - Obama is in the process of closing it. I think Congress also denied him some funds.

Trillions to the bankers and other bailouts. - The bank bailout was under Bush; the auto industry had to be saved, otherwise our economy would be in the tank.

Health insurance reform shredded. - see Rachel's unicorn explanation.

No progress on climate change agreements. - China was responsible for what happened in Copenhagen. At home, Dean thinks Obama has done a very good job on the environment.

National security jitters. - it is an ongoing problem.

2 R governors elected. - that happens

1 Ken doll placed in Ted's Senate seat. - no public option

Corporations given vast new power. - GOP judges

It is juvenile to blame it all on any one person/body.
That is like the RWers blaming everything on Obama - when most of it started under Bush.

15. Maybe they all want the same things?
Or are all beholden to the same shadowy interests behind the scene, the mythical "powers that be"? Look not where the parties differ, but where they agree.

19. Of course there is an explanation.
Go look up who contributed to each party and each member.
( Source Watch, etc.)
The same groups did, time after time.
All you have to do is buy off KEY players of any Congress, no matter which side of the aisle they are on.
Key players being those who hold Committee Chair status, have influence, etc.

And the owners always get what they want. Today's SC decision merely put out in the open what has been going on for a long time behind the curtain.

26. Great question I was wondering about myself today -- !!!
Think the Supremes were activing defensively???

We've frightened them . . .

Nah -- think longstanding agreement that they're lackeys for big corporations -- !!!

Haven't read the decision nor dissents yet -- want to get to that!

Hope someone posts something on it here -- having trouble doing searches!
