14. A cartoon I'd like to see for Limbaugh---Haiti quake as his birthday present (born 1-12-51)
Sometimes cartoons say it all in a glance.

16. If there is a God, I hope Limpballs won't make it to 60.
May he have a very unhappy birthday, and no returns.

3. The problems with Haiti are obvious.
They're poor, black, Catholic - and they speak French.

13. To you and me it's a sad, sick joke.
But to Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh & evil wingnuts like them it's not.

15. I don't think the author of the toon understood Robertson's angle at all...
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 02:36 PM by liberation
... the issue Robertson, Limbaugh, et al are having is not with the Haitians breaking away from French rule, lord knows these fundie assholes hate with a passion those godless libertine French people. The issue is that Haiti did not become a de facto US colony.

The French left Haiti 2 centuries ago, however our policies of economic ownership of this whole continent are far more current and more recent in their effect of the systematic destruction of societies in our hemisphere during the past century.

We tend to vilify European colonial histories (as well as they should) while completely ignoring our own colonial hubris... which is both far more recent and in some ways as (or even more) destructive for the affected peoples. Americans tend to be of the opinion that if you ignore something it does not exist, and sure we can make all sorts of mental contortions with totally subjective "benchmarks" that some people may use to claim we have not been engaged in colonialism. But the people affected don't give two shits what we call it in order to make ourselves feel better about it.

For fucks sake, we just took over a country like Iraq to get their natural resources just for the hell of it... we walk, quack, and talk like an Empire. And Haiti among other places, owes some of its recent misery directly to some of our very own policies.

17. Very well put; thanks
Exactly what I have being trying to get across, minus the curse words, of course (but I do understand the passion behind them though). Thanks for this post.
