My Daughter.. Humanitarian-in-Training
So I turned on the news this morning to check out what's up with Haiti...I haven't been watching much, been mostly reading things here and checking links to BBC and such.

My daughter, who is almost 8 years old, has checked out a couple of the news stories over my shoulder and she joined me watching CNN this morning. Well, as always they were also talking about donations and such, she told me we should give something to help.

I promised her I'd give $20 to the Red cross out of my next paycheck...

15 minutes later she looks at me and says "Mom, what can I do to help...?"
I said she could donate some of her allowance, but that wasn't enough for her.
so I asked her how she could make some money
she says "I can sell cookies..... (her eyes light up)...my whole CLASS can sell cookies!!!"

So I have just been made field commander for the Second Grade Bake Sale for Haiti, drafted the initial email to the teacher & principal...etc...

wow, I love my little activist! :loveya:

3. Our kids can be amazing, can't they? My 5 year old has many questions about
what is being done to help people in Haiti. I explained about people flying planes and how the supplies are needed to get to people.

4. Exactly, my girl was watching with lots of interest!
...the idea that someone had to go without food or water for days was horrifying to her, she really would have jumped on a plane and gone to help with her bare hands if she were older!

these kids are gonna save ALL our asses one day!

6. My 4 and 5 year olds take care of me already.
I am a diabetic so they bring me juice or food if they see me a little out of it. And I am teaching them how to dial 911.
I really love them and that they are learning to care about others and about how to have compassion.

17. The Teacher LOVED the idea!
Sooooo...pending the Principal's approval... (and her teacher just *happens* to be the Principal's wife)

the Second Grade Bake Sale for Haiti Relief is ON!!!

I'd better get my recipe book out! ...what a wonderful way to turn a hearbreaking event into a heartwarming story...
I hope the local paper gives it some love, too ;)

I am so freaking PROUD of her, and it hasn't even manifested yet!!!
