On to the cost of this, and why the UN has floated half a billion
realize that is the down payment.

But why?

Well I will start at the level of training personnel for this. Just my kids, my basic EMTs, cost 200 hours to train, and for the instructors, 500 man hours. We calculated that in dollars and cents that would be about 1000 dollars \ EMT... and that was with volunteers. The logistics officers will run you an average of 10K, and above. So each one of those elite Firefighters from around the world, that is cross trained... is about a million dollars on the ground.

Now the actual cost of getting them there. They have to come themselves with their gear and pretty much self contained. So on average you are talking 10K per person\ day.

Solders that are comming in are even more expensive. Just a rough one since this is closer than Afghanistan, that runs about a million, well a quarter of a million is not that off.

And this is just for the critical personnel you need on the ground RIGHT NOW.

So half a billion... is just the down payment. This will run... reconstruction and all, over 10B. And that is money that the world community should spend... period.

And yes, this is another thing that we had to look at... actual operational cost. For us, well we calculated that in a disaster our personnel would run about 1000\day, that also included the cost of them not doing their day jobs.

1. I have a question.
Do people (survival aid teams, both private and public I guess?) just go and then wonder about who to bill later?

Or do they first get assurances or agreements about who will pay them?

Can you explain a little a bit about this?

Thanks.

2. $5 Billion in World Bank loans....
that will pay for a new, modern downtown...

surrounded by the same-old shanty towns...

to be repaid with Indonesia-Style sweatshops....

Wanna Bet?

3. Since the UN already floated it I am hoping for the actual
Marshall plan...

That would take the usual suspects out of the mix.
