Pat Robertson tries to "un-ring the bell" on his Haiti comments

Statement Regarding Pat Robertson's Comments on Haiti

CBN.com – VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., January 13, 2010 --On today’s The 700 Club, during a segment about the devastation, suffering and humanitarian effort that is needed in
Haiti, Dr. Robertson also spoke about Haiti’s history. His comments were based on the widely-discussed 1791 slave rebellion led by Boukman Dutty at Bois Caiman, where
the slaves allegedly made a famous pact with the devil in exchange for victory over the French. This history, combined with the horrible state of the country, has led countless
scholars and religious figures over the centuries to believe the country is cursed. Dr. Robertson never stated that the earthquake was God’s wrath. If you watch the entire video
segment, Dr. Robertson’s compassion for the people of Haiti is clear. He called for prayer for them. His humanitarian arm has been working to help thousands of people in Haiti
over the last year, and they are currently launching a major relief and recovery effort to help the victims of this disaster. They have sent a shipment of millions of dollars worth
of medications that is now in Haiti, and their disaster team leaders are expected to arrive tomorrow and begin operations to ease the suffering.

Chris Roslan
Spokesman for CBN

You see it was our fault that we didn't understand that Pat was asking for God to bless Haiti and that his talk about
"pay back" for the Haitians dealing w/ the devil 200 years ago wasn't what he said because he really is a nice man.

my

eat shit and die Pat

I :loveya: Alyssa Milano too.

Dear Pat Robertson, You're a douche.

9. Okay, I'm not that up on the history of Haiti. That pact they made with the devil in 1791
for victory over their masters, did it work? And, if so, where might we contact this Mr. Devil? We may have a proposition for him.

12. Oh for fuck's sake ...

Shut up, Pat. Just SHUT THE FUCK UP. Shut up, bury your head in a bag of shit and set it on fire.

Pact with the devil ... Oh, that couldn't have been slave owners pissing in their pants making shit up because they wanted to scare everyone else shitless too and make them cry like little kids who've had their cookie taken away. No, couldn't be. Everything white people ever said about Haitians in the EIGHTEENTH FUCKING CENTURY was obviously the gospel.

Fuckwit.

GAWD! I fucking hate him.

(I have now reached my profanity quota for the day. Pardon the intrusion.)

18. Nothing he says now will ever stop the original clip from being played...
...over and over again during this tragedy. If you think he looks like a monster now...he will look like the devil himself as the true extent of this disaster gradually becomes known.

It is so heartbreaking to think of how terrified those with family and loved ones in Haiti must be. When they turn to religious leaders for comfort they get this christian gasbag blaming the victims for being in league with the devil. Little babies, innocent children with broken bodies! How can these right wing christians be so cruel?

24. He doesn't even try to un-ring his own bell!
He has a SPOKESMAN do it FOR him on HIS OWN site! That's pathetic. The least he could do is lie to his flock directly -- it's not like it would be something new for him.

Robertson, the 700 Club, and/or CBN (in any combination) must have been getting an earful from the flock, for this attempt at whitewashing his comments to have been deemed necessary. Gives me hope that maybe the flock is starting to see past the facade.

Bite me.

He didn't have to say ANYTHING about this "deal with the devil" that "some people" supposedly didn't want to talk about. He didn't have to say a WORD about it. So why did he, if not to imply that Haiti deserves its suffering?

Asshole.

38. "allegedly made a famous pact with the devil" BULLSHIT!
That's NOT how the story goes and "the devil" wasn't part of Africa's myths or religions. The story of Bwa Kayiman is that a Vodou ceremony was held to invoke courage and protection for the freedom fighters.

===========================
The most historically important Vodou ceremony in Haitian history was the Bwa Kayiman (Bois Caiman) ceremony of August 14, 1791 near the northern city of Cap Haitien that began the Haitian Revolution, officiated by the Vodou priest named Boukman. During this ceremony the spirit Ezili Danto came and received a black pig as an offering, and all those present pledged themselves to the fight for freedom. This ceremony ultimately was the prelude to the most successful slave revolution in the world that took place in the northern part of Haiti a week after the Bwa Kayiman ceremony. That revolution resulted in the independence of Haiti, January 1, 1804, thus created the first black republic in the world by defeating the powerful army of Napoleon Bonaparte, emperor of France. It is to note that the Vodou flags played a very important role in that resounding historical feat.
