Big Journalism: Palin hire caused "an awful shrinking feeling in the groin" for Fox News competitors

January 12, 2010 3:20 pm ET by Media Matters staff

From a January 12 BigJournalism.com entry by James Hudnall:

When the news broke yesterday that Sarah Palin had signed on as a Fox News contributor an awful shrinking feeling in the groin must have hit the execs at the network's competitors. While the old media continues to try to paint her as a crazed redneck, the fact of her ascendancy as a serious power player is now an inescapable fact. Her autobiography, Going Rogue is a publishing phenomenon, having sold 2.7 million copies as of December 1 of 2009. It's one of just four political memoirs to sell more than a million copies.

1. Oh yeah...I am sure they are quaking in their collective journalistic boots.
Not that journalism these days means much...but the only reason to tune into her is for the comedy.

5. She won't quit this. 1) she is an attention whore and fox will make sure
she looks as good as possible and besides she is preaching to the choir on Fox and 2) unlike being a governor this is not real work where she has to get her hands dirty it is just a way to make millions and say crazy things doing it.

3. Look, I have no doubt that to 15-20% of the population she is extremely popular
but I hardly think FAUX hiring her is a sign of anything except them catering to that dim-wit demo which makes up a big part of their viewers.

4. What groin? The press have no gonads.
And they haven't had any since Edward R. Murrow's day.

7. Being on Fox "News" makes her a "serious power player"?
Will she be as serious of a power player as, say, Neil Cavuto? And hey, it's easy to sell a million books when the Heritage Foundation buys 995,000 of them!

Oh and um, she is a crazed redneck.

8. Feh
What a bunch of nonsense. She will destroy herself by broadcasting her ignorance broadly. The other networks that have comedy newshows (like the daily show) or news shows that rip on fox news should be totally enthusiastic about this idiot being given a whole news show to blather stupidly.

John Stewart and the Writers for SNL have to be celebrating!

Tina Fey now has to worry about getting typecast.

9. "an awful shrinking feeling in the groin"
Did somebody put Preparation "H" in their undershorts? What an unusual choice of words!! A serious power player? The fact that she signed with Fox News shows that, except for the truly deluded 28%, no one will ever take her serious ever again.

10. This is a good deal for America
Everyday, Caribou Barbie can open her mouth and show the world just how ignorant of a redneck conservanazi she is.
This is going to be great for the republikkkans.
She's just a gold digger looking for a fast buck. I'm sure lots of conservanazis will be drooling just watching her in action. Maybe if they pay her enough, SHE WON'T QUIT.

She'll be spreading a lot of conservanazi love out to the people. :puke:

The dizzy b!tch. :silly:

11. Ireland's biggest bookie is already taking bets that she won't last a year.
http://www.philly.com/philly/business/homepage/81237267.html?cmpid=15585797

She certainly won't last if she's on live. But if she's scripted and taped and is either kept away from anything but puff pieces or has her gaffes removed before pieces are aired, she may actually seem viable, especially to those who "think" with their gonads. Judging from the McCain campaign experience, however, the Sarah-Todd duo may cause their own train wreck and could be a lot more trouble than they are worth.
If so, it couldn't happen to a more deserving network.

15. they never had anything to shrink
if the other news agencies want to compete, cover the actual crimes that are committed by politicians and corporations in the name of greed while people in this nation lose their homes or the ability to afford groceries.

19. They'll be building ski lifts in hell before anyone lets this woman within spitting distance of the
White House. We wish she would be the Republican candidate in 2012. The reality is likely to be someone not really on the radar screen right now.
