The "Right-Wing Noise Machine" appears to be sputtering like a 1982 Chrylser K-Car

I've noticed a very positive thing lately. The old reliable Wurlitzer that once was the polished well-oiled propaganda maching of the right appears to be sputtering and burning oil quicker than an Iraqi oil field.

Perhaps all the bile and sludge they've pumped through it for the past 20 years is beginning to "gum up the works".

Take the Harry Reid issue. Two years ago, Drudge would have put one of those siren flashing new alerts out with a headline like "Democrat Leader Harry Reid Announces Surrender Plan to Terrorist". Next thing you know, Rush, Insanity, O'Reily, Boortz and every other cookie cutter wing-nut talk show host would beat, and beat, and beat on this until the din reached a fever pitch. Faux News could be counted on the give the bogus story plenty of air-time, and the wing-nut papers from the Washington Times to the New York Sun might even run some stories.

Then, they'd bitch and moan that the "mainstream media" was ignoring this important story about our impending surrender because of their "liberal bias". Perhaps they'd get some wing-nut web-site to start an e-mail campaign to CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and the other alphabets demanding that they cover this in a "fair and ballanced" way.

Pretty soon, the major media outlets would decide that they needed to cover this bogus story to protect themselves from being labled as "liberal". Before long, there would be an expose on the NBC Nightly News with commentary from Ann Coulter.

It all seemed to work so well, and so seemlessly, but lately, they just don't have the "ooomppphhh" to make this bogus story a "story".

Maybe it's because of places like DU.
Maybe it's because of places like Media Matters.
Maybe it's because Dems are starting to fight back.
Maybe it's because companies like CBS realized that no matter how many times they give time to Rush Limbaugh, they'll still be labeled with a "liberal bias".
Maybe it's because the networks finally discovered that there is no pleasing these whack-jobs.
Maybe the Imus incident caused networks to realize that there is a price for broadcasting rampant Bull-shit.

I don't know what it is, but the machine just ain't what it used to be.

3. HEY! My mom drove a K car
liked it so much she bought another (blue with wood paneling). Those things drove us across the country more times than I care to remember. I *hope* the RWNM isn't sputtering like those two, but rather more like my 1970 Valiant green machine with white vinyl top.

8. K-cars were well-built overall
I still drive a 1984 Dodge Caravan with the 2.2 K-car motor and tranny. I just bought a used 1996 Caravan, but the Caravan motor has been significantly redesigned. Still, I wouldn't write off the K-cars, they do have a tendency to blow head gaskets, but that's relatively easy to fix if you are mechanically-inclined. I believe the motor was based on a German VW engine water-cooled block, they are metric and I think they were made in Mexico.

If you have an old sputtering K-car, give me a price and I might consider it.

OTOH if you have a sputtering old Repug, you can keep it. No way I'm gonna buy that.

12. Didn't mean to insult all you K-car enthusiast
I could have said "like an Edsel". My point being that their propaganda machine isn't performing like it used to.

I think the poster that said "the American people aren't buying their crap anymore" was spot-on.

I credit MMFA and DU and the Dems fighting back as well. Anytime Rush or O'Reily have to spend half of their show defending their lies and half-truths is time well spent. Listened to Rush the other day, and he was almost fair and balanced. He spent half of his time crafting conspiracy theories about evil lefties out to get him, and the other half defending dumb ass statement he had made.

The "Machine" is sputtering, but we still need to take a sledge hammer to it. We simply must restore some decency, fairness and TRUTH to our media.

4. I think they don't want to bring up most anything national and nothing to do with W
if they can avoid it. Scarborough, of all people, called this after the 2004 election-what are they going to gripe about they have full power? Well now they don't have full power and the War on Iraq is pure toxin -don't touch. They have tried trumping up stuff on Pelosi and Reid and Baldwin etc but basically their all powerful leader strong decider that he is is now the weird uncle everyone knows is in the room but no one wants to talk about.

But I have to give big props to the Dems learning to fight back. Reid has done a damn good job lately, and Kennedy and Kerry have also been on fire. The WH tosses one small Molotov cocktail, and the Dems come back with major artillery fire. This needs to continue.

11. I don't know
until The leaders of the Regime are behind bars they can still do considerable damage. Delay today states Reid and Pelosi are "Very close to treason". Dennis Miller claims Reid lacks moral fiber and purpose and is stating the War is lost in order to place himself in the record books.

The attacks by them and the likes of Hannity, Ingraham, Rush et al will continue well psat 20 Jan 2009...
