Why should police officers be required to fight crime?
Consider any given police officer. Before that officer was born, society was already afflicted with the disease known as "crime." It's a pre-existing condition.

15. I wonder if OP is making a statement re insurers who won't insure pre-existing conditions
without a shit load of extra fees (now that they may have to cover such conditions at all)

Brilliant comparison, actually.

16. They aren't required to fight crime.
The SCOTUS has been very clear on that. That is one of the reasons, along with laziness and racism, that they don't fight crime.

17. They are not.
Police officers are not required to fight crime, their job is to arrest people who break the law.
