Rahm Emanuel to run for Chicago mayor?
from huffpost:

Rahm Emanuel Reportedly Considering Run For Chicago Mayor
First Posted: 01- 5-10 11:45 AM | Updated: 01- 5-10 04:14 PM

Buried in Sally Quinn's Washington Post piece calling for accountability at the White House over the revelation that a third person managed to crash the White House state dinner for the Indian Prime Minister is speculation that White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is considering a run for mayor of Chicago.

Quinn, who believes White House social secretary Desiree Rogers should resign over the party-crashing incident, wonders if it's Emanuel's political calculations that may be shielding her:

Emanuel, the most political animal in this town, also should understand that keeping Rogers on as social secretary reflects upon the president's judgment. It's possible that he has other considerations. Emanuel is said to have told people that the chief-of-staff role is an 18-month job and that he is considering a run for mayor of Chicago. And Rogers is a major social and political player in the Windy City.

Rogers' friends and colleagues have defended her performance at the dinner.

3. Anything that gets him away from Washington
I'll pay for his fare, as long as it's one way. Chicago, Tierra del Fuego, Nauru, Pitcairn, I don't care--the farther the better..

4. An 18 month job, huh?
Well, he's had the job for 12 months already, that means he has 6 months to go before he gets the hell out out of there and turns the position over to someone who actually has some loyalty to the President.

Yes, yes, I know he serves at the pleasure of the President. Of all the decisions Obama has made since he took office, this is the one I question the most. I don't know what this asshat's game is, I only know he is no friend to progressives. Let him become mayor of Chicago, he'll probably be indicted for bribery in a couple of years and then we'll be done with him forever.

7. I do not doubt his loyaty to Obama. It is his commitment to the progressive
and liberal democrats that got his man elected that I question.

6. Rahm would probably be better than Daley's kid.
(Daley three is being prepped not unlike the Palin kid who suddenly joined the army.)

9. And vice versa
Daley's kid, who may be as incompetent as the day is long for all I know, could not be any worse than Emanuel as Obama's chief of staff.

13. I Asked a Couple of Folks I Know Involved in Chicago Politics
and their response was "WTF?"

There are many, many others who are waiting for Daley to retire and while Daley and Rahm are "close", he's never expressed an interest in running and Daley more than likely wouldn't back him...

29. I still think it will be up to him...
...besides, most people in Chicago use public transportation.

While it might piss you off, it doesn't impact a big part of the City.

16. Please don't inflict that on my beloved city!
However, anything that gets him out of the WH may be a good thing.

I'd rather prefer Rahm leave politics altogether.

He'd be a great banker. With his 'fuck the little fella' mentality.

Peace.

24. I'm sorry, but we all have to take one for the team once in a while
The nasty little worm will likely do something to get indicted sooner or later and it just may be easier to see in local, albeit, Chicago, politics.

Rahm can go be King Of Chicago.

19. Wrong on Durbin
Dorgan. As one who lives in Chicago, I shudder to think of Rahm being anywhere near city hall.
Daly sucks so bad and I'm itching for someone else but the thought sickens me.

21. Has Anyone Told Richie D. This???
The first time I heard this rumor was via a local hate radio station...following Chicago's loss of the 2016 games...and done to tweek Daley. Now it's worked its way through the drinkie-drinkie circuit to Sally Quinn.

Don't get your hopes up too high at this point. The election isn't until a year from March...and the incumbent would like another term to serve longer than his daddy did. Rahm may have to wait until 2015.

If Rahm Emanuel does "look into" the possibility, he'll decide against it.
