If you didn't call for Impeachment of Bush and Cheney, please don't complain about Cheney now
and in the future, as they are already rewriting the history that you did not address at the time.

The window of opportunity is when they are in office -- that's what the Constitution provides for. Once it's gone, once they're out of office uninvestigated, unaccountable, unpunished, it's too late.

We've seen this in RECENT history with Reagan/IranContra/Bush, we've seen the same cast of characters infest the Dubya administration, hell we saw them steal two elections.

So, honestly, if you didn't call for Investigation/Impeachment when it mattered; if you didn't expect that Cheney would rise from the undead to infest the corporate airwaves and Bush wouldn't get a library to practice his rewriting history skills, you were fooling yourself.

No, I don't think you'll learn from this time, either. That's why those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it and force the rest of us to.

6. If you did this, don't do that threads bug me
Like, if you voted for Obama, you have no right to complain about Afghanistan escalation!

If you didn't vote, you have no right to complain at all!

(so, it seems like only war hawks that voted for McCain have a right to complain)

It just seems like a lazy way to stifle debate. Current issues can sometimes be judged on their own merits independent of what the judger did months ago

25. Good luck with what? I'm not the one trying to tell folks what they can or cannot
say or complain about based on some bogus line you want drawn in the sand.

I'd be pleased as punch if people who voted for the asshole started complaining about him. I don't see this bullshit idea that one has to have always been against someone/something in order to now be against them. Nor the opposite, I don't believe someone has to have been for someone or something in order to be for them now.

Personally, I hope that all of us are paying attention and adjust our opinions considering both past and present information. If it takes a person longer to come to a realization than someone else, that's cool. It's only the ones that refuse to face reality ever, that worry me.

33. In a way you're right
but you don't read carefully. "Good luck with what?" is obvious from my reply to YOUR post of what you'd like to see happen NOW that in many ways, it is too, too late.

The lessons of the past might serve those who take "longer to come to a realization than someone else" -- might serve to alert them AT THE TIME, that putting off prosecution of Bush/Cheney, based on speculation of vote-getting and the next election, is a DEADLY irreversible MISTAKE.

Might serve someone to read the OP and think for two seconds about the history that has already repeated, within MOST of our lifetimes and the IMPLICATION AND RAMIFICATIONS of that.

You're right, your post I replied to made no sense -- it seemed you were saying you were wanting prosecution now ....

Apparently, the dumbing down of education that doesn't teach history anymore prevents some from reading compound sentences (even used commas to help you):

The lessons of the past might serve those
who take "longer to come to a realization than someone else"
-- might serve to alert them AT THE TIME,
that putting off prosecution of Bush/Cheney,
based on speculation of vote-getting and the next election,
is a DEADLY irreversible MISTAKE.

Might serve someone to read the OP
and think for two seconds
about the history that has already repeated,
within MOST of our lifetimes
and the IMPLICATION AND RAMIFICATIONS of that.

Yeah, you have to suffer through all those words and then the thinking and then at the end there's implication and ramifications and stuff.

65. It will hurt
Thank you for considering the possibilities. Seeing Cheney's inhuman snarl, pontificating to media as if he has any legitimacy, reminds me of watching Ollie North go on his speech tours and radio shows. These people are CRIMINALS.

And they will go on and it will be a farce and it will hurt.

The other harm done, the point of the OP, not merely to berate although I might have known.... is the point that those actions, those in/decisions GAVE Cheney the legitimacy to do what he's doing now. GAVE Bush the power to rewrite history. Gave the future a perverted, distorted, unreal view of what really happened, just like with the non-Impeachment of Reagan/Bush and the faux-Impeachment of Clinton.

With those two RECENT events as examples, we tried to forewarn ,,, and now.... all some folks do is get defensive and pissed off because they --- don't take responsibility.

and what about the people who have the power right now and still do nothing?

I forget how many "petitions" I signed, beginning with Ramsey Clark's back in, oh, 2001 (and whatever happened to Ramsey Clark? I seem to remember his being treated by some on DU the same way they still treat Dennis Kucinich--who also, as I remember, sponsored a bill or had a petition or something--like escapees from a leper colony)--but the ones who need to be drawn and quartered are the usual wimp-ass bought-off "democrats" who did nothing, and continue to do nothing.

We now have war criminals running around unpunished, including holdovers from the JFK assassination, Whitewater, and Iran-Contra, the same douchebags who continually return, the fucking undead, and we still have people who have the power to do something doing nothing--and you're browbeating liberal posters on a fucking Internet message board. Wow--like that is sooo relevant, dude.

Great post but no browbeating. Some brows are beating from the inside, because the information makes their brains hurt. :spray:

The history you invoke is there, for all to see, just as it was during the years that some of us (thank you) worked for invesigations/impeachment, election reform, etc.

"We now have war criminals running around unpunished, including holdovers from the JFK assassination, Whitewater, and Iran-Contra, the same douchebags who continually return, the fucking undead, and we still have people who have the power to do something doing nothing......."

If I am criticizing those who don't include themselves in "peope who have the power to do something doing nothing .......," who take the easy way out, the spectator, do as Madame says route, without taking responsibility (because geez, what could THEY do?) for the outcome, so be it. I am reminding people that Cheney's insane killer dick face in our faces now is a result of those in/actions then.

78. I called for it. I still insist on investigations, charges and trials.
However, at no point did I ever expect our spineless twits (a/k/a Congress) to ever do anything with what Kucinich presented. Too many skeletons in too many closets, maybe?

79. somethin
even to now. Is it too much of a "horses-head-in-the-bed" (thanks Thom Hartmann) environment for even those with a spine?

And if anyone thinks that the non-impeachment is non-related to the government Obama inherited ......

87. If Cheney had been impeached, people would not have to listen
to him constantly on TV defending illegal acts such as torture, making false statements constantly concerning foreign affairs, etc.. He would have been discredited along with his arguments. So yes, complaining about him now if you didn't want to take care of the situation when it was time to act now seems like well you are a little too late. His actions were in some part legitimized to people who don't know better since there wasn't consequences.
