Black teen jailed for shoving hall monitor speaks out
Here is an update for those following the story--if you don't know the story--you can refer to my journal.

"It was traumatic,” Cotton said of her 12-month stay in the Brownwood facility, where she said she witnessed kids fighting and listened to threats. “I didn’t go through stuff like that because I stayed in my room.”

Relationships there were pitiful, Shaquanda said.

“I missed my family,” she said. “My father died two weeks before I was released, and I was unable go to his funeral.”

The teenager appealed to other youth and said being locked up is not a way to spend life.

1. What a strong young lady. She plans to join the revolution and fight for peace
and justice. Funny how oppression has a way of back firing on the oppressors.

“We need to stop fighting against each other and take a look at the things that are going on around us and stand up for ourselves,” Shaquanda said. “Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t be anything, because I have been told that many times.”

Shaquanda said she is now going to pursue her dream.

“I am going to college and become a lawyer and help other kids,” she said.

3. If you want to complain about bullies...
complain about the bastards think that this was in any way justified.

Now those are bullies.

4. What kind of country denies a child the right to attend
her father's funeral? I guess the one that sent a soldier back to Iraq while his mother was dying.

5. And the one that sent a 14-year old black girl to jail for up to 7 years
for shoving a hall monitor that for all intents and purposes, shoved her first.
