Kudos to President Obama
His statement just a few minutes ago was just what was needed.

"A systemic failure of the system in place for many years now."

"Our intelligence community knew the risk but failed to pass it on to the appropriate agencies and authorities."

No guilt. No walking back. Just facts.

He sounded like President Joe Friday (<----meant as a compliment). In charge and not in need to spread bullshit.

5. The money statement was aimed at BUSH
The system that has been in place for many years failed, he said. Excellent.

17. I agree with you here.
Maybe he needs to clean up the CIA before he can do anything that would rock the boat. That would be one plausible explanation.

7. Absolutely. It was refreshing to hear a recognition of failures
and he certainly conveyed a sense of he is really working on this. His response will be reassuring to many, I think. I had to chuckle because Chuck Todd was clearly confused that the President doesn't use * time to respond. Todd said that he didn't expect something quite so soon given what the press was briefed on yesterday. I love it that the President doesn't schedule to suit the journalists time schedules.

Good for him--it needs to be said.

He spoke the truth. Bu$hCo's "homeland security" bullshit is/was just a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

19. One of the most cited flaws of our intelligence agencies
...is that they don't share information.

In its original Clinton administration conception, the Department of Homeland Security was supposed to eliminate the inter-agency communication blocks. I like Ms. Napalitano but I would like her better if she were working harder to end the "us vs. them" mentality that exists amongst our intelligence factions.

In the patriot act and the illegal wars and the healthcare system and the entire political system and the economic system, FISA. But we'll just focus on the intel community and body surf.
