Mexico City: More progressive than California or New York

Rafael Ramirez (left) and his partner Sebastian Becerril become the first gay couple to be married under new law recognizing same-gender marriage.

FELICIDADES!

7. We Shoot People Here, Too.
But we don't let two men marry each other in Philadelphia, where I live, or in Los Angeles or in New York City. In Mexico City, they do.

6. Yep, we are so manly man in the US, many surprising places are moving ahead
while we worship our testosterone thinking anti-gay makes the US so manly, righteous and godly. Make war, not love. Love might fragment our fragile straight marriages with about a 50% divorce rate.

9. It is as progressive as San Francisco or New York City.
It is an amazing cosmopolitan city but the majority of states in Mexico, as in the United States, are dominated by traditional religious sentiment and most of the citizens are anti-gay.

I don't see that happening here in the US for years to come though. This may be a new trend, countries like Mexico start to progress while the US lingers and falls further behind. Next thing you know they'll have universal health care while the US still only has crappy private insurance with tens of millions without access to any health care.

14. I can't stop looking at the gay rights map on Wiki.
Of course, it has not been updated to reflect the civil rights violations in California and New York, but it does highlight that gay marriage and gay rights, in general, are starting to make headway in many areas.

Of course, there are areas that are still woefully anti-gay too. What strikes me as the most stunning (on paper at least) is that South Africa has legalized gay marriage and just being gay is a crime in the nations right next to it. And, America seems to be a gray area (on paper) in between more tolerant nations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage#Current_status

I wish Americans would wake up and see that we are falling behind as a country when it comes to doing the right thing.
