I hope the guy qualifies for the Darwin Award due to his self inflicted injuries.

The only qualification is that you remove yourself from the gene pool due to your own stupid actions.

65. Well, that's because
there is no medical definition of "insanity." There is a medical definition for what constitutes "mental illness." And the law absolutely relies upon the medical field in helping to determine if a person's mental state is such that they meet the legal definition of "not guilty, by reason of insanity." This is why court cases frequently have psychiatrists and psychologists testifying as expert witnesses.

I am not attempting to comment on the individual who is being discussed in this thread. Like everyone else here, I am not in a position where I could make any meaningful comment on his mental status.

76. no one is trying to claim the dude is legally insane, but he is clearly medically insane
the bar for legal insanity is not emotional illness but rather the ability to understand what you were doing

if he thought he was peeling a banana but instead set off an explosive (psychosis) he would be legally insane

no one thinks he is legally insane but there are many medical forms of insanity that are not recognized under the law (clinical depression or any of a number of character/personality orders that cause a person to try murder/suicide may be found in that number)

it's clear that he has one of these mental/character illnesses to the point that when he disappeared his own father reported him as a possible danger to self and others, warning that he might find himself vulnerable to being brainwashed and used as a terrorist

this person will pay the ultimate price for having a weak mind, he could have lived the life of a millionaire of privileged background, with the whole world as his playground, instead he will spend life in prison

i don't think we need to wish anything more on him

it is too bad the authorities did not listen to a father's worries but what's done is done

be glad you have a healthy mind not susceptible to religious brainwashing, i am certainly thanking what gods there be that i've been spared that sickness, sometimes it destroys what could have been a wonderful and joyous life...and for what, all for nothing, the BEST case was that he was stopped before he hurt someone, the WORST case would be that he became a murderer remembered forever for killing

i've flown that route many times since it is a major hub to hub across the atlantic, and i can only say, i am so glad that no one was needlessly killed because of the security failures that took place that allowed him to board this flight

he had the world at his feet, a million dollar condo in west london, a rich family, his youth, and everything in front of him -- opportunities most of us can only dream of

he threw it away because of some old scribble in an old book

how can you NOT pity him? he threw away his life and disgraced his family for NOTHING

you can pity someone and not wish them set free, you know, obv. he's too dangerous to allow to walk around, it's just a shame he wasn't confined and helped BEFORE he got on the plane, instead of being helped, perhaps medicated, and out in a few weeks or months, he'll likely be in prison for life

here is the shame -- the father called for helped, for intervention and he was basically given a huge brush off

72. Of course a better hope
might be to disengage the US from interaction with the middle east and see how that works. You know, as in "mind your own"...as opposed to trying a petroleum hegemony.

73. Yep, that stopped with the uss cole and embassy attacks in AFRICA.
there is a long list of attacks against the infidel for being the infidel. Personally I see no problem with the US obsoleting Oil with a combination of technology. It would take 10 years for the entire middle east to look like sub saharan africa. There is nothing useful there except oil export. Personally I could give a shit about the region.

Until then the days of observe and spread eagle and take it are done, the guys behind this, like the guy who counseled the ft hood shooter are dead on their feet.
