C'mon DUers! republicans are sure to need your help getting this one going!

Here, I'll start with the veneer of evenhandedness: "If Obama was supporting a slumlord, then I won't support him."

I have the fullest confidence that you folks can take over from here.

For more than five weeks during the brutal winter of 1997, tenants shivered without heat in a government-subsidized apartment building on Chicago's South Side.

It was just four years after the landlords -- Antoin "Tony'' Rezko and his partner Daniel Mahru -- had rehabbed the 31-unit building in Englewood with a loan from Chicago taxpayers.

Rezmar kept getting city and state funding, even as earlier projects fell into disrepair and financial troubles.
Rezko and Mahru couldn't find money to get the heat back on.

But their company, Rezmar Corp., did come up with $1,000 to give to the political campaign fund of Barack Obama, the newly elected state senator whose district included the unheated building.

1. Not really good but I don't see this as going anywhere.
It won't be a non-story because nothing is in the world of politics, but this should be a very small blip.I give it three DU days. :)

3. hot line and Captial Fax has the real story.
Edited on Mon Apr-23-07 11:10 AM by illinoisprogressive
it's that obama was a jr. lawyer who worked under Rezko's buddy. he was assigned to duties. But, the partnership between those two did not develop until 5 years after Obama left the law firm.
However, like i have said, this is old news. We all have heard about Rezko before. Rezko is a sleaze but, was a mover and shaker in Chicago politics. All the pols have some connection to him.

Capital Fax is an illinois political blog;

You need to scroll down the page to find the story.

5. The only problem I have with Obama is I don't know where he stands on the issues,
such as health care. I've been to his website but there ain't much "there" there.

His main issues seem to be charisma and that he's a person of color.

I do like his voting rights legislation that would make it a federal crime to attempt to defraud or disenfrancise legal voters. That's a good a good thing.

Other than that though, I haven't the foggiest idea what he would do if elected.

8. I hope his delivery is more like Democratic Convention speech than tv interviews....
... One would expect that sort of thing to improve over time, I suppose.
