My white Christmas is ruining my Christmas
I live in SE Kansas, and my family is in Kansas City, about a three hour drive away.

I was planning on driving up early Friday morning, doing the holiday thing, and coming home that night (I have dogs I can't leave overnight, and with a new infant in the family I don't want to bring them up).

It just started to snow. They're predicting blizzard conditions with whiteout conditions from here to my destination, and rural highways get very little snow removal.

Christmas has just been postponed to Sunday :(

Be careful out there, my fellow western Kansans. Judging by what I'm getting now, it looks to be quite an onslaught. Stay safe!

1. Yeah, and it's not like they had snow in that desert manger scene, anyway.

2. Neecy -- try this as a backup

My kid swears by it. You may not be in the room with family, but it IS real time chat. Merry Christmas!

4. my chihuahua ruined my christmas
my son and i were supposed to be on a train to DC yesterday, but he had an allergic reaction to some meds and i ended up spending all my vacation money at the vet.

last year we flew to CA - supposed to have been on the 24th. unfortunately we were flying through cleveland which got snowed in. we finally got to CA on the afternoon of Christmas day - the kids couldn't wait! we missed watching them opening their presents. such things happen.

this year whether we like it or not economically speaking we have no chance of being with our loved ones. it's my youngest son, me and the aminals. so be it.

try to have a good christmas anyhow. thank heaven for phones.

5. I'll be thinking of you when I sit here in SoCal feeling sorry for myself
because I couldn't afford a plane ticket to go to WI for Christmas again this year.....

At least I'm not the only one. And I do have friends who invite me for Christmas dinner anytime I'm stuck in town.

10. If you tried to go to WI right now you might not make it.
The weather is horrendous in this part of the country; you'd probably be stuck in an airport, too.

6. People here in NM are bummed out
because our sorta white mostly melted and the rest will evaporate (sublimate for the geeks out there) by tomorrow morning. The next storm is due in a couple of days. So we have a brown and bitterly cold Xmas as usual.

People are always amazed that the high desert this far south gets snow. Our first snow on the ground this year was a week before Halloween.

Still, white Xmases aren't what they're cracked up to be if you're planning to be on the road at all.

Stay safe. This storm is a little stinker.

9. Sedan
I was just in your hometown last week, visiting the evil Walmart. I like Independence. It has a nice small town feel without being all that small. Beautiful old homes, too.

8. Hi Neecy,
I think this is the storm that just dumped on us for the past 36 hours. Today, however, the sun is brightly shining, the walk is shoveled & the roads are already starting to melt. We got about 6" of powder - gorgeous, light, fluffy powder.

Sorry it will mess up your holiday plans, but the true holiday is the day you spend with your family, not the day the calendar tells you it is. Stay warm & be safe!

11. Thank you for staying home. It's not worth the risk
and you can get together later and still have your own Christmas.. We had Christmas once in February.. our son was hospitalized from Nov until the end of January..and all he wanted was to open his presents at HOME.. He spent his birthday in the hospiatl, and wanted HIS Xmas at home:)

12. Oh, I'd be a fool to try it
The blowing sleet came first, which left everything with a nice layer of ice before the snow started falling.

There are huge stretches out here without a single home or sign of civilization. You enter this at your own peril :)

I'm fine with a couple of days delay. I've decided to buck it up and bake Rugalah today to take up Sunday.
