Obama has recently appeared to whitewash his support of the
public option.
This is sad, but I'm sure he'll issue a "clarification" before Xmas. In fact, I guarantee it. The main criticism of Obama is that he did not push hard enough for the public option. He said he wanted it, he said we needed it, and then he refused to fight for it.
Well what happened with the
Clintons?Didn't the Clintons fight tooth and nail for the little guy? Didn't they call out the insurance companies and try to hold them accountable? Didn't they do everything they could to make health care reform the number one issue for their administration? How did that work out?
They failed.
Health care reform was ALWAYS going to let the Left down. It was never going to be universal. But do you really think the Right is fighting against this now? Those tea parties, those rallies, hell that's all nothing. Had Obama mirrored the Clinton charred earth strategy (or even taken a
"public option or nothing" approach) the RW would have brought out the big guns and ran this reform into the fucking ground. You think you've seen paranoia and hysterics with the tea parties? Imagine if Obama was actively pushing for universal health care. Obama's approach has effectively muzzled what would otherwise have been a spastic seizure by the Right.
As a result, Health Care Reform is looking both probable and possible. It won't make the majority of the posters on this forum happy, but it will save a lot of lives and increase the quality of life for a whole bunch of people.
He is trying to avoid all the
mistakes the Clintons made. Does nobody else see this?
