Homeland Security signs contract for 200 Million rounds of ammo...
http://www.handgunsmag.com/HG_industryintel_200912/

Winchester secured a Homeland Security contract for up to 200 million rounds of .40 S&W, ammo that will be used by Immigrations, Customs and Enforcement. The load is a 135-grain hollowpoint. No ballistics are available as this load is not yet cataloged, but it will fall under the Winchester Ranger brand.

I wonder if this is a one-year supply? 200 million rounds....

I guess I better not make any more snarky remarks to the TSA Goons...

That's a helluva lota bullets.
TWO HUNDRED MILLION ROUNDS?!

Man, how many guns has that agency got? .40 S&W is a pistol round, too, so that's a lot of pistol rounds they need, for whatever reason......

1. Since I am gun-impaired, can you explain
what kind of gun the ammo is for?
Isn't that an awful lot of ammo for Stateside use?

You go through a lot of ammo practicing and qualifying.

It would most likely be for this service side arm:

Here's a comparison of several different ammo types:

5. I would think it is a split order
hollow points for social work and full metal jacket for practice and qualification.

7. Absolutely necessary at that caliber
a .45 ACP would stop a man easily without a hollowpoint. In order to insure oyu put a man down with a .40 S&W, you should go to hollow point.

10. I was under the impression that one of the reasons for hollow point
was to keep the round from going through the good citezen and possibly injuring a bystander. That's why I keep em in my 1911 anyway cause they cost a hell of a lot more than JHP.

17. Nothing to do with that. Hollow point bullets
expand on impact with flesh If the idea is to not allow through body penetration, use a frangable bullet. HP bullets mushroom on impact and cause a larger wound channel and more tissue damage. They are much more effective killing rounds than fmj ammo in the same caliber. The Geneva convention requires combatants us jacked ammunition because it does not cause quite as much damage to tissues as do hollow point rounds.

11. Yeah but 40 is good enough to round up all of the health insurance
scofflaws and put them in the camps that some bozo is talking about upstream.
