44. I think he was referring to some kind of warning or threat he had received.
He was calling out Matthews (who has been a shill for the Admin's bad HCR legislation and a supporter of anti-abortion measures too), and just a few minutes before he called out Axelrod, daring him to come on HIS show instead of Chris' (he's your pal, we know that...").

Ed may be facing pressure from MSNBC brass or the Obama administration, which has been showing little tolerance for critics this week.

Wonder if they called NBC to put the pressure on?

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

47. Big Ed, Got Big Balls

Did Ed just put MSNBC on notice, he won't be silenced and if he loses his job, so be it.

I bet Chris Matthews isn't amused and things could get ugly.

57. That's how I read it. I think he was asked to tamp it down...
And tamped it up instead.

The pressure probably came from the White House, who obviously have some sort of influence on Tweety's show.

We saw the use of similar threats (public and not so public) during the previous admin, they helped get Bill Maher, Phil Donahue, and Ashley Banfield fired (the last two from MSNBC).

Could the Rahm Emmanuel administration be using the same tactics now?

Could be.

Schultz was not invited to the White House Xmas party, and if you think the White House isn't trying to intervene in press coverage - then you are being very naive.

Time will tell - let's see how many White House folks agree to go on The Ed Show over the next couple weeks - I bet it's going to be very few or none at all.

While the netroots were the ones that called it from the very beginning....

Matthews was offensive, rude, and pathetic.

insiders. They don't feel they have to be accountable to the rest of us unwashed masses and Matthews is no different. Looks like he got his big city ass whomped by a country boy originally from Minnesota. It also seems like another Minnesota native Al Franken whomped Lieberman's ass too. Go Minnesotans. Maybe those north woods are where we should be looking for our next President.

This backseat bitching "not a grown up Democrat" has:
Donated hundreds of times and for hundreds of dollars many of the times
Been a delegate
Been a Democratic Central Committee Member
Marched
Picketed
Written letters, emails, and countless letters to the editor
voted every single time
written for publication

I hope Chris Matthews' leg gets another feeling in it when he remembers how he fawned over Bush claiming Bush won the war in Iraq. What a douche.

Tweety is obsolete and out of touch. He and Pat need to ride off into the sunset together.

On another note, Pat Buchanan admitted today that he doesn't believe in evolution. He's
obviously mentally ill.

45. Time for my very distilled exposure of Tweety, distilled from 9 years of observation
********QUOTE (-ing myself)*********

STAGE 1: He has said his family were "cloth coat (Rethugs)."

STAGE 2: A *degree* of authenticity derived from his back-then, impressionable participation in the inspiration that Catholics in general and Irish Catholics took from the ascendancy of JFK. O.K., fine.

STAGE 3: He joined the Peace Corps, as he says, NOT from noble motives but just to avoid Vietnam. Some here say that in itself was "noble ENOUGH." Uh, he had other alternatives, like, going to Canada (too out there), going to jail (not an option), filing as a Conscientious Objector (too unreal). So this stage became one of SCRAMBLING FOR JOBS. He tried being a rent-a-cop as a Capitol policeman for three months. Then he hired on as a flunky in politics, and the name of the game in the LBJ era was to be a Dem.

STAGE 4: He was a convincing flunky and operative in Democratic politics for CARTER, Tip O'NEILL and others.

STAGE 5: A flunky only has power and prestige depending upon how successful his bosses are, so when RAYGUN beat the pants off of Tweety's bosses, he began TURNING seriously. Repeating, THE FLUNKY WORSHIPS SUCCESS. So he became a RAYGUN worshipper, this being his FIRST LEG TRICKLING period. Plus, his mentor, G.E.RUSSERT, who had blazed the trail for turncoatism, such as reaching out to LIMBOsevic, showed him the way into the media, meaning STOP being a partisan (which does NOT equate with being "fair") and reaching out to the former enemies (wingnut fringe). What followed was a decade of Tweety attacking all things Dem (and CLINTON) and Campaign 2000 in which he was a Rethug operative who eviscerated GORE five days per week. And then were the SECOND LEG TRICKLING years of Shrub worship. There wasn't ANYBODY, including Rethugs, more Shrub-licking. When the Iraq Attack came along, he suddenly became the biggest zenophobe and 'Murica booster around, performing the on-air execution of DONAHUE and accusing all Libs of "never seeing anything POSITIVE about America."

STAGE 6: Since around 2006 he started swinging slightly away from Shrub, despite a long and intense love affair with Mc5PLANEs. So he entered a possible THIRD LEG TRICKLING period, the length of which is in doubt.

Hope this helps. Yes, he IS that bad.

**********QUOTE********

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31407887/ns/msnbc_tv-hardball_with_chris_matthews

MATTHEWS: That's Senator John McCain criticizing President Obama for not speaking out stronger against the crisis in Iran. .... You know, McCain just gets further and further into Lieberman country, further and further into that far-right mentality about everything is simple and manechian. All you have to do is push that idiot button now. I don't know why he's doing it. Ryan, why is he talking like that, when he knows it's complicated. The worst thing we could do is get involved over there. .... That is the point of view that would have bombed Cuba in 1962. I'm talking about McCain. ....

O'DONNELL: And John McCain does actually know that. What you're seeing here is the difference between a senator's position and a president's position. If McCain was president, I am absolutely convinced he would take the presidential position on this kind of thing. .... Which has always been consistent, always. You know, we don't go into this kind of condemnation, from the presidential perspective, ever in these situations. The president always keeps his head, whether it's Democrat or Republican, in these situations. Senators always shoot off their mouths in these situations. It's classic. ....

LIZZA: I disagree.

MATTHEWS: I think McCain's ticked off.

LIZZA: I think McCain is representing a certain view on the right-- I know this is a loaded term now, but the neo-conservative right used to mean something. And Lawrence, if that was the view, we would have thought that George Bush never would have listened to the folks in his administration who say, you go in and take out Saddam Hussein.

O'DONNELL: No, but the comparable event was what you do when China takes down one of your planes. What did George Bush do? He didn't do any saber rattling. He just did a very careful, slow, presidential-exactly what a Democratic president would have done. A presidential treatment of the situation. You see Democrats do it with trade. They always say, we're going to reopen NAFTA. No, they're not. Not when they become president, they're not. They shut up about it.

MATTHEWS: .... I think there's become this new idiot button on the right, where you have to punch this button in order to be considered a real conservative now. Obama's a socialist on health care. He's a socialist. All his fiscal programs are insanely socialistic. You have to punch that button. Then you got to say this election was bogus. You got to punch that button. If you don't talk in that right wing idiot talk, you're not considered a conservative anymore. The idea of being a thoughtful person is wrong now politically on that side of the aisle. That's where I think it's going.

O'DONNELL: I completely agree with you. What I'm saying is John McCain is actually more thoughtful than his public statements.

MATTHEWS: Ha! Ha ha! Boy, there's a presumption of innocence that I haven't heard in a while.
