1. They are terrified of filibusters. The mention of the word causes
Reid to faint.

6. I'm afraid this assessment is correct.
Obama is getting the bill he largely wanted. It's probably still an improvement over what we currently have and worth passing on those grounds, but yeah, this is what Obama wanted.

4. Because the leadership is full of spineless cowards
They have been that way for a long time. We thought giving them the majority would help them find some courage. it has not. The pukes still control the government and the people are still left without anyone to stand for them.

5. I think LIEberman was the "fall guy" for Rahm.
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 11:03 AM by Nikki Stone1
All the White House wanted was the mandates and everything else was window dressing. As long as Barack and Rahm tied people in debt, cradle to grave, to the insurance industry, everything else could be bartered away. In fact, I believe that Lieberman was the designated fall guy here, once the progressives saw the Medicare compromise as a road to single payer. As long as the insurance industry saw the Medicare buy-in as a way to get rid of sick people who cost them money, it was fine. But as soon as the progressives pointed out that it could be the precedent for single-payer, which would eventually destroy the insurance industry, then the industry got very worried. I think the WH was contacted and Rahm got Lieberman to carry the message and take the hit for the DLC.

with his family. living in his banker bubble. while he is one of the KEY players in why the health care bill was sold down the river to the insurance companies.
