Schumer "Regrets" Slur of Flight Attendant

Posted by Brian Montopoli
(CBS)
New York Senator Chuck Schumer was reportedly waiting to take off on a flight from D.C. to New York Sunday when a flight attendant told him to turn his phone off.

According to the Republican aide who was apparently sitting nearby and told the story to Politico, both Schumer and his seatmate – fellow New York Democratic senator Kirsten Gillibrand – kept talking on their phones regardless.

Then the flight attendant came by again and told Schumer that everyone on the flight was waiting for him to turn off his phone. He asked to finish his conversation but was told he could not; he then hung up and, according to the GOP aide, argued about the rule banning him from speaking on the phone.

When the flight attendant walked away, the aide told Politico, Schumer turned to Gillibrand and referred to the woman as a "bitch."

Schumer spokesman Brian Fallon seems to be confirming the story; he told Politico that Schumer "made an off-the-cuff comment under his breath that he shouldn't have made, and he regrets it."

15. And how dare a plane load of ordinary serfs complain about having to wait for take off!
The nerve of those peasants.
Didn't they realize he had IMPORTANT business with
his corporate masters?

Like which 5 star restaurant to dine in that evening
while discussing how to further fleece his constituents?

I swear, the peasants can be SO annoying!

4. The comment annoys me but the fact that he wouldn't turn his
phone off infuriates me even though he was inconveniencing a lot of the "little people".

The arrogance of this guy.

The Senator voted to shut down Americans getting meds from Canada.

I'm through with him.

He's a tool of Wall Street. They own him.

I know people living in trailers in the desert struggling to pay their fucking prescriptions each month.

His vote told me everything I'll ever need to know about Chuck Schumer.

20. Gillibrand actually stopped her call. Schumer's action was pretty light compared to Mr. "You Lie"
The source you cited is a blog, which might not be written in "final draft" form. In the NY Times account of the incident:

Ms. Gillibrand ended her call, but Mr. Schumer kept talking.

The flight attendant then approached Mr. Schumer and told him the entire plane was waiting for him to shut off his phone. Mr. Schumer ended the call, but then argued that he was entitled to keep his phone on until the cabin door closed.

The only reason why Schumer had to say he "regretted it" was because a Republican aide eavesdropped (unintentionally?) on his vulgarity!

Even more hilarious, (again from NYT article I cited earlier)

Through her office, Ms. Gillibrand said Mr. Schumer was “polite” and “turned off his phone when asked.”

But according to the aide who overheard Mr. Schumer, the phone rang again moments after the attendant had told Mr. Schumer to shut it off. “It’s Harry Reid calling, I guess health care will have to wait until we land,” Mr. Schumer said.

 Once again, the news cites disputed accounts of the truth. It seems that the creeper aide may be more reliable since the aide could actually quote Senator Schumer.

But still, I've heard of a certain member of Congress whose conduct makes Schumer look really polite!
