Some people here seem discouraged that Obama hasn’t made mucho changes since he’s taken office.
We’ve still got troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Millions of Americans still don’t have health care. Those who do have health insurance, can still end up bankrupted by medical expenses.

I ask you to remember that it took decades for women to get the right to vote, it took decades for slavery to be abolished, and it took decades for the passage of the Civil Rights Act.

Why did these take decades? Because “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
-- Frederick Douglass

If you’re thinking, but how long did it take for the so-called Patriot Act to be passed? For the Bush gang to get Congress to agree to invade Iraq? You’re right—not long at all. But the powerful wanted both of these things to happen.

Power doesn’t care about rights of ordinary people. That’s why it took so long for women to get the vote, for slavery to be abolished, and for the Civil Rights Act to be passed.

Always remember, my fellow Du'ers,

“Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
-- Frederick Douglass

It will take a lot more demanding before the US gets a single payer health plan for all its citizens. I wish it were not so, but I believe that’s how it is.

It's going to take a helluva lot more than a Democrat in the White House to make sweeping changes.

2. You're right, of course.
Sadly, many of us thought putting a Democrat in the White House and giving him total control of Congress would be enough.

4. If only we had more than just a dem in the white house..
..if only we had majorities in the House and the Senate. From what I remember being told in fundraising letters and in speeches, we'd REALLY get stuff done if we had that. And oh, imagine what we'd be able to get done if we had 60 democrats in the house. I'm feeling woozy just thinking about it. I mean honestly you just can't get much more power than that, so we should really think about doing something about getting there.

6. Why are they unwilling to fight for it in an election year?
Is it not worth fighting for?

7. If Obama had been telling the truth in July I might be able to believe him again
But he either lied or backtracked without so much as blinking an eye, and made chumps of all of us.

We need a democrat in the White House.

A real Democrat.

An honest one.

Not the guy we have now.

8. Dump the party; join a movement!
Party Participation gives you the illusion of being involved in your democracy. Join a movement.
