Share something positive.
With all the negativity in this world, and on this board, we could all use it.

I'll start. A few days ago, I was getting on a city bus. When I was about to pay my fare, the driver told me to keep my ticket.

My cousin stayed on the phone with me until 1:30 in the morning last week because I was having a rough time.

There is still kindness in this world. It's not all bad.

15. Today, three "ladies who lunch" fell in love with the lady residents of our long-term care home
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 12:17 AM by patrice
and committed their Red Hat group to come and socialize with our ladies once a month. We are a low-end of the market, Medicare - Medicaid long-term care home.

Today the Red Hat ladies sang Christmas caroles with us and our ladies. Our chaplain told everyone the story of each carole. There was an ASL interpreter for our deaf residents, one of whom was absoutely transported by the carolling; she glowed and smiled so sweetly even though she couldn't hear us singing. Afterward the Red Hat ladies said they would come back once a month to play bunko and do crafts or watch movies with our lady residents.

I'm very happy about this, because, though we take extremely good care of our residents (have won 3 state-wide awards for quality of care), socializing them is sooooooooo very important and also very hard to get.

Merry Christmas to the Red Hat Society!

I highly suggest it as a positive lifestyle change. It was my 5th serious attempt to quit, and I finally got it right this time. Don't quit quitting. Nicorette gum helped me a lot, and I eventually even quit that too. I haven't had a single piece of Nicorette in weeks.

Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 12:25 AM by silverweb
Every day, I'm reminded that most people are decent and fair minded, restricted only by their fears.

Every day, I'm reminded that "With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world."

The older I get, the more likely I am to laugh at trivialities that once would have bothered me. It's liberating!

35. Just got back from a date with a friend
We've dated on and off in the past, always come back together for a bit when we're both single, have a good time together. Been averaging $2,000 more a month take home than normal, working a good contract until next October at least. Refinanced the house where I only owe $79,000 now, payment is $435 a month, can't beat that. My son is making good grades and staying out of trouble. I just finished another degree I had been picking at for awhile. Nobody in my family is unemployed except for my half-sister's husband, but that's been his choice, won't do non-union work.

Stuff can go downhill quick though, enjoying the current good times while they're still around, good luck to everyone else.

40. About two/three weeks ago
My wife and I were trying to figure out how to get a new roof put on my father/mother inlaws house. We figured we could get all the supplies on a project card, but the main issue was labor. We figured that we could do it all by ourselves(basically kill ourselves), and out of the blue three other relatives offered to help, and we got the roof done without incident in only three days.

It amazes me when people offer to help others, without asking for them to do so, or when the people don't even demand compensation. The only negative aspect of doing the roof was, I now know what it feels like to carry 58 bundles of shingles up a ladder.

45. On New Years Eve in 2002 I proposed to my wife on a Windjammer cruise.
I told the Activities Director of my intention, and on the last night out, on our way back to St. Thomas, USVI, we were at dinner. The Captain came on the public address system and asked all passengers not currently at dinner to gather in the dining room, as one of the guests had an announcement. Sandi was soooo anxious to find out what was about to happen that she was giggling like a schoolgirl. She had no idea I was the guest the Captain was talking about. With all the guests and crew there must have been about 150 people crowded in the dining room. It was pretty much my best New Years Eve ever.

I pulled her from behind the table, and dragged her to the center of the room. I took this TOTALLY gawdy costume jewelry ring out of my pocket (I left the real ring at home so as not to have it stolen), introduced her, got down on one knee, then proposed.

We got married this last November 10th. Finally.

I understand now that Windjammer is out of business, s/v Legacy lays in disrepair in Curacao. :-(
