It will never happen.

9. Because he legally CAN'T...
A lot of people here seem to take the "to hell with the rules" position, but unfortunately "rules ARE rules"...

Senate Chairs are formally appointed by vote by the entire Senate. The only way to replace one is to vote on a new organizing resolution which, not surprisingly, requires 60 votes to come up for consideration. Lieberman won't vote for it, and I can't see any reason why any Republicans would.

18. Then Reid better explain this to DEMS. And he better say that he opposes Joe's chair...
If not, then I'll just assume that he likes Joe right where he is, and so will most DEM voters.

If Reid wants Joe out, but cant legally do it, then he needs to articulate this fact.

Right now would be a great time.

If Reid wants to come out say "Hey we would love to get rid of this jerk, but we dont have the votes-we are trying to get one Republican to come over and vote with us on this"- then I welcome that statement.

This is the first I've ever heard of this- I've certainly never heard Reid say this is the real reason he never attacks Joe.

Ive never seen Reid even TRY to get support for voting out Joe, or say that he would do it if he could.

I think Harry likes Joe right where he is, frankly.

29. I'm sure it's negotiable to get 2 GOP votes...
in exchange for something else.

There has to be some thing that Republicans want that is worth playing along with a punitive resolution against Lieberman and is reasonable in cost. Maybe we could toss Specter to the wolves by promising them he'll get no primary funding from the DSCC or DNC (because they hate that guy and they've got to think they've got a better chance against anybody else over an incumbent, even Arlen) in exchange for a motion that allows us to make Lieberman a pariah without a caucus. Also, they may support any such resolution without even a negotiated deal as if we give Lieberman the boot, he'll be on their doorstep begging to join their caucus...that's not ideal but it's not like we could ever count on his vote (or Specter's, for that matter) on anything important anyways.

(It's wishful thinking but I'm still not ready to accept that Arlen Specter is really a Democrat and this seems like a great way to wake up tomorrow and feel a lot better about the Democratic Party in Congress and my home-state of Connecticut.)

11. We would still have majority status if Joe left.
I think they are counting Blue Dog DEMS as Republicans.

It's strange that our leadership is so inept that we cant count Blue Dog DEMS or DLC types as sure votes on issues that DEMS support, and that we have to consdier them as "Republicans" when it comes times to count heads...

I fact that is never mentioned when the DNC and DCCC emails us for money that goes to said Blue Dogs & conservative DEMS.

15. We would? Shit, then I'm really mad!
I thought we lost control, and suddenly the GOP would have their majorities

But Franken solved that, didn't he?

Shit we DO NOT NEED HOLY JOE THEN!

20. Funny how all "centrist" arguments have a lie or "mistake" in there somewhere.
Here's a tip- if someone is making an argument or an excuse for why DEMS have no choice but to screw you over, scratch the surface and look for the lie or "mistake" therein.

10. The GOP will have a majority if DEMS lose one Senator?
Or is this just more of the filibuster fake-out talk?

We have 60 DEMS, if Joe leaves, we still have 59. I thought we only needed a majority to pass legislation.

If Obama & Reid are to inept to keep 51 DEM senators in line on important issues, then that points to their inability to lead- it's certainly not an excuse that ends the debate on why DEMS cant get things done.

We cant even get them to fight for a PO, so what makes you think they would attack one of their own?

21. I think that the top DEMS just plain agree with Joe, the GOP and Big Insurance.
They simply OPPOSE a public option. They are conservative on that issue.

It's really that simple.

Once you realize this, the guessing game is over.

30. Oh, like when we canvassed, sent money, and voted for change we could count on?
Like that?

Let's not be disingenuous because we both know that the only Democrats who vote for the majority leader in the Senate are Senators. Most politicians, Democrats included, will tell you want you want to hear and promise what is necessary to get your vote, then they will do what they like. My Senators are Feingold and Kohl and even if they voted for Harry Reid as Senate majority leader I wouldn't think for even a second to not vote for and support them.

That is reality.

24. I want a nice, juicy Ethics Committee investigation.
Lieberman is selling our law, obviously. Barbara Boxer is the Chairman, and Sherrod Brown is on the committee.

Let's dig in to ole Joe's financial disclosures, and his wife's, and see what's what. How about that for an idea?

I am more concerned with so many Democrats every time unnamed source perpetuates a rumour and they fly into a melt down before anything is verifiable.

But, hey 802 people must be a very large sampling!
