Chermel, Karyn K., M. D. of LaGrange, formerly of Oak Park, cherished daughter of Mary and the late Eugene Kennealy, beloved mother of Lisa Chermel (Ron Stelmarski), Kerry Chermel and Dan Chermel, loving grandmother of Jackson and Owen Stelmarski, devoted sister of Sharon Carey, Psy. D., dear aunt of Kevin Carey, fond cousin of Robert Fowler. Visitation 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Prayers 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home to St. Cletus Church, LaGrange for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001-5004 or International Medical Corps 1919 Santa Monica Blvd. Suite 400, Santa Monica, CA 90404 appreciated. Dr. Chermel was a member of Doctors Without Borders, and while serving in Bosnia during the war, her group won The Nobel Peace Prize. She set up Primary Care Centers in Angola with The International Medical Corps. Dr. Chermel served as an Emergency Room Physician at Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, at Rush/Oak Park Hospital and at Loretto Hospital in Chicago. She was also an instructor at The University of Illinois. Funeral Home Phone 708-352-6500.
