Promotion day arrives for white Connecticut firefighters
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — White Connecticut firefighters who persuaded the U.S. Supreme Court to side with them over black colleagues are getting badges recognizing the promotions they sought.

Fourteen firefighters who sued the city of New Haven are being promoted Thursday to lieutenant and captain.

They complained to courts when officials looked at 2003 test results, saw that no blacks did well enough to be promoted and threw out the results.

The high court ruled in June that officials violated the white firefighters' civil rights.

7. I'm sure many here will disagree.
Difficult case, very poorly handled by the city.

8. some of the nuances were difficult
sotomayor's ridiculous terse rejection of the ff's appeal was atrocious, though.

there was some excellent analysis of the details over at scotusblog and volokh.com

as a firefighter or a cop, i simply want to be judged equally , regardless of race, creed, gender, etc.

the city of new haven discriminated in favor of one race over another.

that's wrong.
