How low can you go.
So when I heard there would not even be an attempt at single payer I bitched. I was told I was a whiner who didn't get his pony, so I lowered my expectations.

When I heard there would be a fine if I couldn't afford the mandatory insurance policy that was going to be forced on me I bitched. I was told I was a whiner who didn't get my pony, so I lowered my expectations.

When I heard that the "robust" public option would be reduced to "some sort of public option" I bitched. I was told I was a whiner who didn't get his pony, so I lowered my expectations.

When I heard that the public option was going to be replaced with lowering the medicare eligibility age to 55 I bitched. I was told I was a whiner who didn't get his pony, so I lowered my expectations.

Today when I heard that the insurance companies are celebrating their VICTORY on the health insurance bill, I'm writing this thread. I'm not going to bitch, that would be pointless, because I know there are a ton of people here who will be happy to lower their expectations once again and cheer this gift to the insurance industry.

Frankly I'm done lowering my fucking expectations. If I lowered them another inch I'd be a fucking Republican.

As far from the Equator as I can get... with good healthcare, people who take care of the homeless... I'm going to read over the site you linked! There's a Norwegian Seafarer's Chapel not too far from home, and I hear they give lessons.

129. I have no choice. I can't afford to stay here. The HCR bill sealed my fate.
As I've mentioned before on DU, I have an adult child with
a chronic life long medical issue.
There is no way I can continue to afford paying for management of it.
There is NOTHING in that bill or any where else that would
help us.

So, basically, I don't see an alternative.

128. I KNOW my kid would fare better elsewhere. In healthcare for sure.
One of the reasons I have gotten serious about getting out is the
health care issue. My adult child has a life long chronic
condition that is extremely difficult treat or to get any assistance for.
Can't tell you how much I have shelled out since her diagnosis.
No coverage available, even if I purchased Cobra for her.

Other countries would simply treat her.
That much I've learned.

Here, the people who need help the most
are least likely to be able to access it...

BUT, we're number one!!! Right?
:sarcasm:

The HCR sham was the last straw for me.
Especially in light of the bankster bailouts and
the war with out end.

132. Agree . . .
What I was trying to get to was the heartache that other nations have had over the
years -- Italy, Ireland, Germany -- as they sent their youth here to find new lives,
leaving families behind.

After "SICKO" ... I was at a loss to figure out why I hadn't thought of this for myself
years ago -- and wondered if my kids would begin to think of leaving. On the one hand,
you recognize the positives for them and want it -- on the other hand, you don't want them
to disappear from your lives!

Meanwhile, we have older Americans -- possibly parents and grandparents of adult children --
also needing to try to move on for health and economic reasons.

At one point, I checked some of the figures on out-migration -- I think it was 1.7% and
has been going on for quite some time.

My sister married someone who was a native of Ireland -- came here as a young teenager --
worked all his life here -- but had a big family in Ireland and he and my sister frequently
returned to visit. They had always wanted to retire early -- no children -- and 4 or 5 years
ago they did retire to Ireland. At the time, they took my mother who was a heart patient
with them and she got fantastic care there -- especially end of life care.

Very sad re your daughter --- but mainly because compassion is so lacking in our "for profit"
system -- greed and corruption run rampant!!

There is an excellent market there for the music I do and

99. That movie,
'Soylent Green' may come true.

Sometimes I think we could beat these Corporations at their own game. For example, you'd think we could find a group of doctors (such as Doctors w/o Borders) willing to set up Clinics in Mexico and Canada that would provide Health Care to Americans over 50 who have needs such as joint replacements and heart problems.

I'm not in the medical field, but I wonder what are the most common operations for those 40 to 65 years of age????

We would outsource our Health Care. Or make a deal w/ Mexico and Canada to pay for our needed surgeries and the money could go to feeding the hungry in Canada/Mexico.

The Insurance Lobby would probably put 'hits' out on the doctors who participated and the patients who went to them. Evil, fatherfuckers.

Sometimes it's difficult to see the difference between a Dem and a Puke, the line between them is so fine.

We have the White House. We have both houses of Congress. The overwhelming support of the American people. And still...they can't pass health care reform with a strong public option.

Pathetic, if you ask me. And they're going to pass some piece of crap, make us all pony up several hundred dollars a month for it, and tell us what a great job they did for us. They'll have bruises on their backs from patting each other so much.

Makes me sick. :puke:

People aren't going to like paying more for insurance and will take it out on the Dem party by voting Repug and life will get even worse until they screw us over so royally the Dems look good again to the majority. I'm so angry at Obama for bailing on us, letting the Repugs and Repug twins (Nelson, Bacuus, etc) set the bar so low so the bill would be sure to be a failure for lower and middle class Americans. This was such an opportune moment, totally pissed away for nothing.

If I didn't have to take care of my 85 year old widowed mother and get my daughter thru college, we'd be so OOH.

I posted a link to Firedoglake's petition with the provocative title 'Obama Fail' and I'm getting raked over the coals. I'm STILL being told that we don't know what the bill is, so worrying about it is 'chicken little' :eyes:

the heart of the post:
What does this deal do? It forces Americans to buy the products of large corporations, then the IRS penalizes them if they refuse.

This is sucking so much, it's unbelievable.

One thing.. just some friendly advice, the reason your thread isn't doing well is probably the title. As much as I am angry at Obama I realize this isn't all his fault, he had no idea how deep the rabbit hole went. In over his head. This pile of crap falls on all but a few Dems. Grayson, Sanders, Kucinich and their ilk. Threads trashing him in the title are usually written off as "hater" threads before they are even read.

I changed the title of this one 3 times before I posted it...

I've noticed that people actually post in threads with 'provocative' titles. For better or worse. I've posted information I thought was valuable and watched it sink like a rock. When are the American People going to wake up to the fact that we live in an Oligarchy? Never - we can't afford to take out constant mega-ads like Wall St. and the other rich fucks

When are we going to fight back? Never - most people are so asleep, they have no idea they are being raped. If we didn't fight back over the blatant stealing of the presidency in 2000, there is no hope for us ever to do so.

When? Never.

43. Just think after this fiasco is over
it's on to entitlements, gotta cut the deficit and as bernanke said that's where the money is. Wait till they start justifying social security cuts because Obama said it has to be done. They just handed their kids and grandkids over to the insurance companies in a deal with the devil, my social sec. will be a piece of cake.

Should be interesting.

I've got no healthcare, no doctor, no access to much needed dental care, eyeglasses held together with superglue, no job and 10 years to whatever piddling amount they leave me in social security after contributing since I was 15. There's not much they can do to me to make things worse than they have been.

44. We have the government we deserve
We have the government we deserve, which is the government we tolerate.

The wealthy control the government, and the government controls the people to protect the wealthy.

The masses have lost control of their government.

Maybe it's time that the government lost control of the masses?

General strike? Hunger strike? Economic boycott? Just stop spending on nonessentials.

An economic message is the only one that will be noticed because it's the only message that will matter to the whores (politicians) and pimps (lobbyists) and johns (Wall Street).

We use blogs to blow off steam. We should be using them to organize a la Alinski!

54. No. Actually we deserve far better.
The American people didn't do anything to deserve the plunder and corruption we see. Vast resources have been aligned against our interests. Most people are too busy working to hit the streets.

95. If we deserve better...
If we deserve better than we should do something to make the change. And I disagree that most people are too busy working to hit the streets. They are too passive to sacrifice their off-work time to hit the streets.

Yes, not everybody has the resources to take action, but there are enough that do to make change occur.

The ruling class has the masses beaten down, struggling for survival, pacified with entertainment and religion. Thirty years of trickle-down economics, union busting, fear mongering, and poor education have the People right where the elite want them--desperate, underemployed, on the edge of survival, and helpless.

Conditions will get worse, and maybe then things can get better.

If this keeps up, it will sweep the current president and his so-called Democratic enablers out of office and into the dustbin of history.

And then, coming out of the dark clouds of our defeat, standing, cackling insanely over the ruins, will be undead resurrection of the Puke brigades, lead by the bloodsucking Cheney and Palin, who have been handed a victory by our incompetent, corrupt, Democratic leadership in Washington.

Time to get on a boat.

Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 01:11 PM by flyarm
for the second time and this time by the dems..I had no illusions whatsoever..the shadow government or the powers that be wanted this guy..voters be damned..Americans be damned and they wanted him for some reason..the media never looked into his past , the corporate boys ponied up big big fucking bucks for him..they didn't do it unless they expected a big payoff ..it is time Americans wake up..we do not have two parties any longer..there is one big party, with one giant money pot in the middle and you are not invited to the party!! You simply have to pay for it!

Great post, and I too have been attacked here for speaking the truth.. but I refuse to play the game,a nefarious pathetic game .. I know many of us fought the paid Bushbots and I see the exact same M.O. with many here..personally no one will shut me up ..i stand with truth..I can not be intimidated, and I will fight to my death for my democracy..there is no bus big enough to shut me up!

Fuck the assholes that spew the pony shit or the chess bullshit..or wait ..it is too early..many of us have seen this shit for a lifetime..and the assholes will take pennies and give away their constitution and democracy..to some they have no values or prinicples as long as they get pennies and dimes thrown their way.

There is no amount of money..that can strip me of my values or principles.

If you stand strong with your values and principles..the fuckers can not get to you..

as for lowering expectations..I had none..when the fuckers stole my vote!

Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 01:33 PM by flyarm
as for the written terms and conditions of my vote..hell I don't think I WILL EVER BOTHER TO VOTE AGAIN..

I worked hard to protect the voters votes , by paying for audits of the DRE machines here in my county, I worked my ass off as a poll watcher at large to protect people's right to vote,I was an elected delegate.. and blah blah blah..i worked my ass off to protect people's votes when Dem's in congress and the senate looked the other way..and told me and others to STFU about votes being robbed..and stolen..I spent days and days in courts trying to protect voters votes to help lawyers understand the fucking machines..in two states..only to see my own vote get stolen by my own party..and do it without a huge fight ..I am done..

No more of my money..no more of my time and most likely I will never vote again,..why the fuck bother..the crooks are on both sides of the isle..and anyone with half a brain should understand that now..and if they don't, they don't want to know!

You know what I speak DrPhool..you have seen it up front as well as I have!..and the stink is corporate theocracy, it is fascist..and a myriad of words I could use..but it is not democracy.

We who have had experience have been told to STFU..and get out of the crooks way..or to wait for the pony, or some damn grand chess game , of there isn't enough time ..and that Obama has no responsibility in what is going on..well in my book..leaders>lead..we have no leaders anymore..we have corporate whores..nothing more..nothing less.

Too much money involved..and too much power..we the people mean nothing to these fuckers!

I am done..instead of worrying about others..I am going to live my life..travel the world and I am not going to worry another day of my life..if they don't give a shit what is being done to them..and they haven't cared enough to even look at who they are voting for ..then fuck-em!

I have spent too much of my life caring about others..even hurting my own health and wasting time in my own life...now it is time for others to give a shit and do something about it!

and with that..
Happy Holidays!!

119. But, I DON'T WANT to be driven out of my own country!
(insert temper tantrum icon here)

Damn it...

My grandparents came over here at the turn of last century, I'm not giving it up a century later.

I just ran for local public office, as if THAT wasn't a reality check on "what money and power are all about".

Last night I heard Mike Malloy talk about the flack given by one of the most senior members of the House.

I could pull a rant of my own with," Okay, all you motherfuckers line up with me behind this guy. THIS IS OUR FUCKING COUNTRY, YOU GOT IT?"... but I know what is being said here is something we all need to BITCH about AGAIN.

What we need to do after this is what we need to do AFTER this.

120. Well, I see a replay of 1994.
Yep we got screwed again. Hope is dashed on the rocks again. I didn't think it would happen. I am feeling very let down and disillusioned. Everyday I feel that this administration's actions are nothing like the talk during the election cycle. They talked the talk and now on many things they do not walk the walk. If a health care bill passes that does nothing but force us all to buy insurance and in return we get a few reforms put in place, the administration will crow, the right will claim victory and I will feel like shit.

Still I will vote against the right in 2010 and 2012. After all no matter how bad it gets now, a conservative government will be worse.

So my word to all is, OK we won't get what we voted for, are you willing to compound that by letting the right gain more power over you?

133. Don't lower your expectations ...
Leave that to the people who won't look around for fear of what they might see. Keep bitching. I have been bitching right along and if anyone tells me, "give the guy a chance," I tell them that I have but no more. If anyone tells me "give the guy time," I ask how long does it take to start a dialog with your own party to try do something better. If they start telling me what to think or characterizing what I think, I tell them that what I think is my own business and as long as I don't violate the rules of the forum it is not their business to remonstrate.

I wanted a single payer system, run through medicare to be paid for on a sliding scale based on income. To that I would have added a surtax on incomes over $500,00 because they can sure as Hell afford it. What we are getting is nothing, but after I saw the way Obama was acting I expected nothing, and I was rewarded in abundance. You did the right thing. Please don't stop now.

We need higher expectations and a few good upward shoves with them.
