San Franciscans Prohibited From Building Wood Fires Wednesday
Freezing San Franciscans Prohibited From Building Wood Fires Wednesday

A "Spare the Air" alert issued for Wednesday means waiting out the cold snap in front of a roaring fire is not an option for Bay Area residents.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued its second alert of the winter Spare the Air season, which means that burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel is not allowed.

The ban applies to both indoor and outdoor fires in fireplaces, woodstoves, fire pits or other wood-burning spaces.

3. Do they make an exception for those whom it's their only source of heat?
That's what they do in Seattle.

they will go after the landlord if wood burning is the only source of heat. It is illegal for landlords in San Francisco to not supply gas or electric heat - the fine is $100 a day.

4. We just got a space heater
The room we spend the most time in has no heat and it's too bloody cold to go without any longer.

7. Candles actually work well, too (as my friend found out when she used candles
all through her house for a small gathering and the smoke alarm was activated). She said they really warmed the place up!

10. You have to make inroads somewhere.
And usually, public transportation is free on "Spare the Air" days. And it works. Far more people will ride the train or bus on "Spare the Air" days.

11. Correct, and people use it
But why let facts get in the way of a good angry complaint? It's so much more satisfying to go on about 'them' than to educate oneself.
