You go Al! Franken just slammed McCain and a ND Senator on Medicare
Edited on Sat Dec-05-09 02:48 PM by autorank
Moments ago* - U.S. Senate:

I just heard the best slam dunk in a long while when Al Franken nailed McCain and one of
the ND Senators for saying 'This bill doesn't extend Medicare's viability for one day.'

Franken took just over a couple of minutes and made these points:

-- The Medicare actuary says that the Senate bill extends Medicare viability for five years;

-- Everyone can have their own opinion.

-- But you can't have your own facts - the actuary said what he said.

-- He closed with "Facts are facts."

The clip will be outstanding. Franken was terrific!

-------------
* Unless I was hearing a replay, but so what;) - Senator Al Franken (-MN) was exceptional!

4. It's live right?
Glad you heard it. I was on the way to get a burger and had C-Span Radio on.

It just rocked and it was over in a minute or two.

Do you know which ND Senator was he was referencing?

He learned a great deal about the process and system through that recount. I wrote
about it back then Seating Franken and Burris - Memo to Congress: Try Following the Rules Jan. 8, 2009

That makes the intelligence all the more effective. He sort of made a "Sheesh" sound, which I think is
a Minnesota thing. It was highly appropriate, not of that Senate club b.s.

Speak up and stand up to these pricks.

9. So many long-time Democratic Senators are conditioned
to accepting Republican Lies as every-day rhetoric.

Well Republican Lies ARE every-day rhetoric, but it is refreshing to see Franken calling them out on their BS!

The entire rhetoric of the Senate and House is ridiculous. They're not even close to being
in touch with citizens. The Senate is particularly offensive because they put on the
brotherly crap when it's just a den of thieves...did I say that? But Al's the real deal!

10. My daughter said Franken KNOWS how to deal with hecklers after years in comedy
and the GOP senators are naught but a bunch of drunken hecklers.

Franken is an artist! He cuts the hecklers down without breaking a sweat.

and "Republicans are naught but a bunch of drunken hecklers." What a perfect description of them!

12. Boy was I ever wrong about this guy
He seemed so passive during the long recount that I was afraid he was going to be just another spineless Dem.

I couldn't have been more mistaken.

He knows just how to stick the knife in, and he isn't hesitant about doing it.

I'm very impressed and I hope some of our other Senators watch him and learn something.

The pukes are afraid of him already.

18. I'll see you and up you one;)
I was convinced that Clinton hadn't had sex with "that woman." It was irrational and based on
a desire to see the Republicans take it on the chin once and for all. Pretty wrong.

I followed the recount and Franken laid the foundation for his success with voters by the
contract between his composure and that other guy's hysteria and silliness. He had an excellent
crew that did all the right things and he was the "adult." Norm Coleman, just remembered ... Mr.
Free Teeth.

Franken also hung in there concerning the seating. He had an excellent case to Kirk out about the
delay in seating. The cutom of the Senate has always been seat the certified winner, meaning
certified by the chief election official, while the election contest proceeds. They give you
'provisional' credentials that they can pull if the recount overthrows your election. The theory
behind that is that the people of the state or district deserve representation and that it can be
corrected if the wrong representative is chosen.

He would have been right but he knew who and what he was dealing with in the Senate and that it
wouldn't matter. Another smart move.

I agree, the others could learn from him. This rape bill is both correct and, at the same time,
a perfect way of stressing the perverted values of the Republicans ... over and over. Quite
brilliant.

... but you know, I'm still not sure about that dress thing - rofl

The only soundbite douche bags on the right are going to hear, ad nauseum, is:

'This bill doesn't extend Medicare's viability for one day.'
