Non far rightwing, Democratic Catholics should try to expose and destroy any credibility it might have.

4. They are a hate group that pretends to be a civil rights group fighting against bigotry
Of course their definition of a bigot is anyone who questions their worldview, to them spouting hatred against gays and people of Middle Eastern descent is the honorable position while those who call for equality are supposedly anti-Catholic bigots.

5. As a Catholic, I will not defend the church for involving itself in politics.
Some Bishops have chosen to make very public statements on politics and direct Priests on "messaging". This is wrong and I do not support it.

6. Just curious...
If you drop an envelope in the collection on Sunday, then you do support it.

12. That's analagous to equating a vote for Obama with supporting war escalation.

15. I suppose it would be if Roman Catholicism
were the only established religion available to you.
But it's not a take it or leave it situation.

And that's pretty much why I chose to leave the Catholic church.

21. Then, logically, you should leave the Democratic Party as well, if you oppose the escalation.

22. Not necessarily...
As there are fewer options.
Upon leaving the RC Church I gravitated toward the United Church of Christ (UCC) which is more in line with my beliefs.

7. The problem is that a lot of people want to take the Catholic League seriously
as representing Catholics.

Here's a typical DU Exchange:

Outrageous statement by right wing Catholic Bishop

Response by liberal Catholic stating that he/she disagrees with Bishop

Sub-thread informing liberal catholic that real Catholics must follow everything the bishops and pope declare to be true.

Response to liberal Catholic stating that by continuing to identify as Catholic, the liberal Catholic is supporting the right wing Bishop.

Well said.

Many on DU paint with a broad brush and forget that 40% of Catholics voted for Obama. With out those votes, we wouldn't be discussing this or healthcare reform, now...would we?

20. I can understand my fellow Catholics who have walked away from the organized
Church. I think some of them are believers who just can't tolerate the hypocrisy any more. What gets me are the people who say I can either be a member of the organized church (albeit a very mouthy member!) or I can be a progressive Democrat but I can't be both. Some of those people are right wing Catholics and some of those people are liberals. There are examples of this attitude right in this thread.

8. I'm astounded
I thought it was a one man organization consisting of that crazy Archie Bunker talking guy that you see on TV every so often. But when I see the asswipes behind it I understand why they keep that douchebag as a spokesliar.

because they have about 10 fucking members nationally.

18. To answer my own question, yes, she was.
She was the highest-ranking woman in Reagan's White House, according to Wiki.

Exhibit A documenting the political nature of that organization.
