Obama opposed to "dumb wars"? I guess that's other people's "dumb wars".
With this expansion of the war in Afghanistan, combined with the previous one, this is clearly Obama's war. Not a single additional person is being sent by George Bush. Nor will the war be extended even a single day more because of that moron.

In October, 2002, Barack Obama said, "So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let's finish the fight with bin Laden and al-Qaida, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings."

"What I am opposed to is a dumb war . . . What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income — to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through (turmoil) . . ."

"Let's fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn't simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil."

"Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair. The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not — we will not — travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain."

That's what President Obama said then. Fast forward to today. More wasted lives. Eh, what's a few more, anyway? Just ask Wall St.

1. Guess it's just like when he said he was for single payer back then
Doesn't mean anything now. And now the cheerleader bus will pull up to tell you how he never actually said any of this, and it's all in your imagination. :evilfrown:

2. It's said al quaeda is going into Pakistan or might just do so to get at the nukes.
A fair possibility.

Of course, what if the terrorists figure out India is also nuke-capable too and try to invade India once they realize Pakistan is a lost cause? If AQ knows of Pakistan, it's not beyond their comprehension to know that India is an equally juicy target.

5. What about A. Q. Khan, the father of Pakistan's nuclear program? He is the
real WMD guy that this world should have done something about. Instead, he has given, or sold, the technology to Libya, Iran and North Korea. And, in Pakistan, he is considered a hero.

He is a free man, and as a fine seeker of the almighty dollar, rial, or whatever they call it there, who really knows who all he has transferred the technology to? Saddam Hussein was a joke as far as being a threat to anyone but his unfortunate subjects who were Shiites or Kurds, or who rubbed him or his followers the wrong way. This Khan guy should have been taken out a long time ago. What's really sad is the possibility that we may have aided him in some stupid attempt to help the enemies of our enemies. Who'd be surprised?

4. Nor will the war be extended a single day because of Bush? BS! It's a shithole BECAUSE of Bush
and his deliberate failures to contain Bin Laden and Al Qaeda.

This war in Afghanistan is extended because Bush and his cronies wanted it to stay a shithole.

I do not agree with sending more troops as a way to deal with Bush's mess, but, to claim that this current condition is not Bush's fault is pure misdirection and a whole lot of BS.

9. So you claim that Bush didn't dig the hole so much deeper than it had to be dug?
You want to blame Obama for Bush assuring that the next president would be left with no good choices?

I recognize that even MY position of getting out as soon as logistically possible, has fatal risks attached for the Afghani people who would most certainly be stuck in a violent civil war that BUSH helped create.

No good choice.

11. Maybe if we leave, they can figure out how to get along and form a real,
functioning country like you think they can, but I doubt it. Get real. As long as religious crazies are in control in parts, and want control of all, how the hell can a civil war be avoided? This isn't our doing. The crazies are trying to impose their religious beliefs. if you want us to destroy all religious crazies everywhere in the world, I'm okay with that and will enlist. The true believers, in every nation including the USA, are the greatest threat to man's survival. I may exaggerate a bit, but the truth is that Iraq has been nothing more than a civil war for years between Sunnis and Shiites that blew up with our help, yet we still think our great democratic values, that our own citizens are clueless about, can whip some democracy in Iraq and all over the world. We are best at making the world safe for hypocrisy, not democracy, as if they even want it.

Too bad your name isn't Virginia, so I could say, "Yes, Virginia, there really is a savior known as the United States of America."

13. Every post you write further demonstrates your lack of understanding
of what the fuck is going on.

14. Well, I'd thank you for providing me with the education and understanding
I am, apparently, lacking.

So, if you would be so kind, tell me "what the fuck is going on" as your words so brilliantly state.

I await your pearls of wisdom, and most of all your ideas no matter how raw the words are, because I'd bet your life that we have more in common than you might think. But it would be nice to know where you think I have failed to figure out "what the fuck is going on".

7. Obama always promised to escalate Afghanistan. always.
This is exactly why I didn't vote to nominate him. But then, I was a traitor.
