Palin Book Goes Platinum
From AP:

HarperCollins spokeswoman Tina Andreadis said Tuesday that just two weeks after publication, Sarah Palin's memoir has sold 1 million copies. The print run for "Going Rogue" has been increased again, to 2.8 million copies. The original printing was 1.5 million, then moved up to 2.5 million.

We'd all like to think the book was a failure and has been remaindered, but that's not the case. It doesn't matter if a big chunk of those sales came from bulk purchases by rightwing organizations. The publisher only cares about the money the book is making them, and the public will only care about those huge numbers.

I would not line my bird cage with her toxic crap.

5. As a form on Dada poetry it might work. Line bird cage with a page of her book and then
remove after 24 hours or so and then make a poem of words left un-pooped on.

For instance.

6. They were bought in lots of thousands by Heritage Foundation and other RW front groups.

Look for Going Rouge on a clearance rack at a Dollar Store near you soon.

7. 2.45 million of those copies were purchased by Newsmax at $1.00 each to be sold at $4.97
As is typical of most hugely "popular" right-wing bird cage liner material.

The publisher isn't making a whole hell of a lot of money off of it if Newsmax is getting them cheap enough to sell for less than $5.00.

As to the public. . . most of the public doesn't give a shit one way or the other about Caribou Barbie, and those who do would buy the book regardless of how many copies are printed (not that many would read it, I understand it has very few pictures and quite a few words).

9. Newsmax is the one losing money, not the publisher
If Newsmax thinks it's worth spending that kind of money so that they can in effect give the book away, why should the publisher care?

10. And the people behind it were perfectly happy, I'm sure
Quality is irrelevant. Sales numbers are all.

Lots of terrible books sell huge numbers of copies. The books are still crap, but the authors and publishers are still a lot richer as a result and very happy about those numbers.

15. A political commercial
I don't know if there are political rules covering book sales that she could be ducking but she's always quitting.
