"That's why we have funeral homes and morticians."
Edited on Mon Nov-30-09 12:55 PM by Cleita
Thom Hartmann sparing verbally with an anti-government health care caller. When he got down to asking him if it was okay for 30% of health care dollars taken to pay high CEO salaries and for profit, instead of delivering health care, that was his reply, "That's why we have funeral homes and morticians."

:wtf: :banghead:

Somedays I can't handle Freeper logic and the fact that a minority of these morons are making policy for the majority makes me sick.

6. We barely have honest elections anymore.
Boycotts are a different thing though.

2. Actually, the question was...
Edited on Mon Nov-30-09 01:00 PM by Gold Metal Flake
Do you think Americans should be profiting from death? Caller replied "what about funeral homes and morticians". Of course, the answer did not follow the logic. In order to follow the logic, the caller would have to agree that you could pay up front to a mortician for an embalming and funeral (IE for a dying parent), then be refused service when it comes time to deal with the dead.

That asshole was just pulling shit out of the air. Another paid corporate troll.

5. Paid? No way. They don't even have to pay these dumbasses
They have successfully programmed them to call and parrot the corporate bullshit.

Unfortunately for them they are advocating their own economic demise.

It's hard to believe human beings could be so stupid.

10. It's been hard for me to believe too.
Face-to-face, I've always been able to get through to people. So I felt that people were essentially rational. There has been such an assault on reason over the last few decades that now the path to reason and logic is obscured.

But seeing these people online... wow!

Saw the version with George C. Scott last night.

"Are there no prisons, no workhouses?"

7. That wasn't quite what he said but it's close and what he said isn't much better
Hartmann said something about Stephen Hemsley (United Health Group's CEO) and others make their money by denying claims and profitting off death. The tool then commented that funeral homes and morticians make money off death as well. Cetainly that's true and many of them over charge the familes but I've never heard of mortician doing anything to hasten someone's death and, even if it is overpriced, funeral homes actually provide a service... Something insurance companies really do not.

8. I was paraphrasing.
I'm not good at remembering the exact words because of senior memory, but I do remember the gist which I posted.

9. I figured.
I was surprised I remembered it as well as I did. I thought Hartmann missed the boat with his response which I don't remember clearly, but thought was very weak. The wingnut did imply that it was okay for Hemsley, etal to make money off of death because morticians do.

I think I also took particular umbrage to the tool because the funeral director in my mom's home town and his family were close friends of my grandparents and wonderful people (not ones to overcharge either) and, as I said, they provided a valuable and compassionate service, something the health insurance companies do not so I found the comparison totally out of line.
