EVERYONE on DU - call the White House RIGHT NOW - and tell them to stop this insanity in Afghanistan

And, I don't want to hear it won't make a difference (millions of phone calls stop before they ever start because 'won't make a difference'...can you imagine if all the people who thought that called anyway?)...

Call the White House and tell them that you do not support expanding this war.

Tell them that your continued support of the President depends on it.

We can't afford this war. Our military is broken. Our soldiers are spent. We will have NO available troops for ANYTHING else, if these remaining units are deployed to Afghanistan. We have NO money for this war.

This is utter and total insanity.

Speak up now and implore the President to do the right thing!

Call the White House at 202-456-1111 or email the President.

3. Call as well....

Emails are good.

Calls are better.

Showing up at protests and in person is best!

(Thanks for your letters!)

6. I think I will wait until I hear what he has to say.
I strongly suspect that the President has more knowledge about the problem than any of us.

8. That's what people said about Iraq including people on this board

It was bullshit then and it is bullshit now.

EIGHT years already. This is not some unknowable situation.

All types of high ranking military including Gen Wesley Clark think this is the WRONG decision.

10. He probably does.
However, that does not mean that our opinions do not count.

They do count, and he needs to address them.

He needs to convince us.

IMHO, anyway.

EDIT: to add that I thought of something that is at least new to me.

No one knows what will happen if we pull out of Afghanistan. All the predictions might be wrong and everything will be fine or the same as it was.

But we DO KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU SEND IN MORE SOLDIERS. Death, broken families, children growing up without fathers, mothers. Traumatic brain injuries, loss of limbs, wheelchairs, Post Traumatic Stress disorder, Suicides, Homelessness, Regret.

Loss of support for you in the next presidential election and loss of Democratic seats in the mid-terms.

18. Defense contractors were given the heads up on this some time ago.
Plenty of job listings for civilian jobs in Afghanistan posted throughout the last month. This insanity will not be stopped. There's too much money at stake.

It took years of protest and many thousands dead before the suits abandoned Vietnam. Afghanistan, also unwinnable, will be no different.
