Poll question: Have you had or do you now anyone that has had Swine Flu?

1. I know three people who had it.
They said it was awful, but not unbearable.

2. Last spring my 9 yo son's class all got it.
(more than 1/2 the class was out at a time for a week or two) and then my daughter got it.
This is my take on it: it is mild, highly contagious and not worth the hoopla. I refuse to get vaccinated for it (although I did get the seasonal vaccine). Note that my kids were not diagnosed by a doctor, however one of the kids in the class was and since they all had the same symptoms (fever, diarrhea, slight cough) we are assuming that was it.

5. had it appeared a couple months earlier, it would have been included in the seasonal.
i got the shot myself along with the seasonal.

can't say it was easy to find a dose quickly, but i think supply is a lot better now.

3. I had SOME kind of flu but they stopped testing around here unless you died from it.
The hospitals made it well known that they did NOT want to see anyone with the flu in the emergency room - (mostly because it was a health hazard to other emergency room patients) - unless it was a life-threatening condition (like inability to inhale, turning blue, minor shit like that). Our doctor's office said anyone with flu-like symptoms should just get rest and lots of liquids and it didn't matter what kind of flu it was. Testing for "swine flu" is only being done on corpses so the CDC can keep a body count.

I guess all of that makes sense when you think about it, but it really muddies the waters in trying to figure out how serious a threat the "swine flu" really is/was.

4. I had it - it was really, really bad.
Hubby had it at the same time, so we were both too sick
to care for the other and nearly killed each other. But,
we finally recovered and still have that lingering harsh
sounding cough.

9. hope you feel completely better soon.
if you think you have a lingering secondary infection, think about getting it treated.

no need to suffer a hacking cough all winter long.

15. Which is part of the problem.
The assumption on the part of many is that any flu not proven to be swine flu isn't swine flu. That 98% of the flu from tests in a given area is swine flu says nothing about the percentage of a random 100 people that has the flu.

How much you wanna bet these same people strongly support statistical sampling methodologise for the 2010 census?

I'm not sure that my family and I had swine flu. But we had it with over 95% of flu cases in the region were swine flu, when a lot of my kid's classmates were sick, when my wife's colleagues were sick. None of them were tested, but odds are most of them had swine flu.

7. I know of of an entire family of 5 that got it and all cases were confirmed
by the county health board.

my kids play with the kids in that family and the mother called to apologize to me when she found out because she feared my kids would get it and no one in my family has gotten it thankfully.

8. Just a friend's 6yo daughter. Back in the spring.
A huge chunk of her school had it. It was very mild back then.

We knew Mitchell Wiener, the Queens junior high math assistant principal, who died of it last May. My son graduated some years ago, but we had known him.

16. No and no.
I haven't heard of anyone I know who has it (kind of interesting), or anyone they know (not really that surprising, seeing as I'm not going around asking if anyone knows anyone who has it).
