Report: Chelsea Clinton is engaged to be married

ABC News has learned that Chelsea Clinton is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, a spokesman for former President Clinton confirmed to ABC News.

Clinton, 29, is the only child of the former president and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She and Mezvinsky -- the son of former Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, D-Iowa, and former Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy, D-Penn. -- became friends in Washington, DC, and closer friends when they both attended Stanford University.

The two sent out an email the morning of Friday November 27 saying: "We're sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc."

3. Congratulations to her
Bill and Hillary must have done an amzing job of loving and protecting her during their rocky marital problems. She was so young and impressionable during that whole sex scandal. She could have easily been disolusioned about marriage. She could have ended up acting out by drinking or doing drugs. But somehow she ended up being very mature and well grounded. She is smart, successful, and now she is engaged. I wish her all the happiness.

7. Some people do.
It's nice that the daughter of the 42nd President and the current Secretary of State is getting married. Both her parents are brilliant, from all accounts she is brilliant, and any children she has likely will be just as brilliant if all goes well.

Sheesh.

71. Oh Hannah. Oh Hannah.
I follow your threads so often with pleasure. But the Globe! The Globe! I mean the fucking Globe!

You may not like Clinton, but Chelsea is a charming and decent person. I have met her more than once and found her genuine and intelligent. She suffered heavily from the knuckle-dragging, Hooter's frat crowd during her father's administration. It is very disappointing to see Du'ers fall in with that crowd.

to do with whether or not she's a decent person, btw. nor does it mean i "don't like her".

80. Hanna, oh Hannah.
Please say you use better judgement than to trust the super market tabloids photos as proof. If you do that, then you have to believe that Obama is an alien, that Brad Pitt is a homosexual, and that there are giant lizards living beneath El Paso that come out and eat border patrol guards.

Have you ever heard of Photoshop?

79. Different views and lights.....no big evidance...
Her hair is straight now...that's the only thing I see. I loved her curly hair, but a lot of women seem to want different hair. It's easy to change one's hair. What difference does it make to you or us anyway? I never thought there was any problem with her looks. She is a young woman who's looks are going through a change as she matures.

61. It sounds like it upsets you that people think Chelsea is beautiful. By the way, some of
the most beautiful people in the world have had work done. I don't know whether Chelsea has or not, but it's really irrelevant to her wedding announcement or the fact that people think she is pretty. Does it ultimately really matter whether her beauty "evolved" naturally, or with a little help? I don't see how that would matter.

18. I heard Chelsea speak during the Primary
in a small setting. This is one smart woman, with a recall of facts and especially figures that left me impressed. One of the most intelligent political out reaches I have ever heard. No speech, she took questions. Which she answered, in detail that was amazing. I was glad this woman is a Democrat!
I wound up voting Obama in the Primary, but had the rival been Chelsea, she'd have had my vote hands down.

39. I saw her at an event at Duke.
I could not agree with you more. I have never seen anyone who is both so charming and so intelligent.

Most of the students in attendance at the Duke event were graduate students and many of them were foreign nationals. Half of their questions seem to be straight from their thesis theories or conclusions. She was asked a long rambling question on energy usage and grain production in Iowa vs. some province in China and she immediately began to fully answer the question - with statistics. The audience actually gasped. She stopped and apologized for being a numbers wonk. She then broadened her answer to the global political implications.

Mezvinsky's father, Ed, was my representative when i was young. From what looked like a very up and coming career Ed Mezvinsky ended up in the crapper. It was really hard to watch.
Whenever I hear the name it brings some sadness to me. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer.
Briefly (for those who don't know) Ed got involved in some fraud deals. He had been one of my heroes in my younger years.

I certainly wish them all the best.

45. Darn it!!! How dare she marry somebody else!
Well, good luck to her. Funniest thing is the people making nasty comments - what's up with that?

46. Her name!
Her name alone is enough to bring out the DU nasties regarding anything and everything "Clinton".

Childish and silly, as far as I'm concerned, but they are out there.

47. Well, there is somewhat of a pattern
(here's a secret - I can't see those people's posts due to a nice feature at DU :) Even more interesting? They are the only posts I can't see in this thread - apparently nasty people are consistently nasty)

I've always admired Chelsea. She's a living embodiment of the poem that goes "IF you can keep your head, when everyone around you is losing theirs...."
