1. These things only matter for one of two reasons:

1) If you pay attention to them. Not paying attention to them works very well for me.

2) If you are a victim of sweeping despair when you realize that journalism is dead and all that's left is knee-jerk sensationalism.

Having lived through the 60s (although I have some fuzzy patches there), 2) doesn't actually come as much of a shock to me.

2. both equally stupid. Balloon boy had no one at risk, child safe in house.

Party crashers apparently had no one at risk either - but their stunt was far more dangerous as it will cause some of the looney tunes out there to think they can get past security at Obama events also - and with all those fruitcakes carrying guns to his events already - I fear one would attempt to kill him.
That is why I think the party crasher stunt is the more repulsive.
