Do you agree with any of these?
Dick Armey is pushing this as Republican's "Contract on America" for 2010, or definition of 'conservative principles'.

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/MSNBC/Sections/NEWS/A_Politics/Reagan_First_Read.pdf

As far as the election goes, I think in my district that the Democratic candidate is likely to agree with at least 4 of them. She probably will be against cap and trade (point #3) and probably also against amnesty for illegal immigrants (point #5) and also support DOMA (point #8) and probably also point #10 on gun ownership. I think Republicans might have a hard time running on that issue since Democrats will have had Congress for 4 years and the Presidency for 2 and have done nothing on gun issues. The "Obama is gonna take away your guns" people should look pretty foolish by November 2010.

Point #7 is too vague to mean anything. It's not like Democrats will be running on a platform of hoping that Iran and North Korea get nuclear weapons. And #2 is crap as well, because what exactly is "Obama style government run healthcare".

Anyway, I thought it was interesting to see what we might be running against.

1. To tell me if you agree or not that..
The first statement is contradicted by the second.

WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan believed that the Republican Party should support and espouse conservative principles and public policies; and
WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan also believed the Republican Party should welcome those with diverse views; and

In my view, a conservative principle or public policy as the first statement, is contradicting the diversity of views being welcomed as quoted second.

I come from Australia and although I live there i can show you a comparable example and alarming way that "diversity" is accepted by conservative parties.

Diversity in this instance is like a wild Australian bushland with Native Title Rights being partly bulldozed to clear space for a wider footpath or vehicles or some other rediculously narrow minded and flimsy, yet devastatingly irreversible action. Yeah we celebrate the cultural diversity the Party says, yes sure we'll hug your koalas, and make you feel so happy with all your tourist money coming from the diversity of nature being shown to you only new and improved like icing on a sickly sweet cake. A ruined environment, wildlife habitat, more tourists littering and not really being aware of the wrongs that they do. Even with tourists from the US on public transport to the Blue Mountains saying that they know about Aboriginal Heritage?!!!!

I think not as this is hugely disrespectful, not to mention naive. It is not up to a tourist without Indigenous heritage to speak for the Indigenous people!! I am indigenous. Do you even consider the diversity that once was in my land just over 200 years ago?!!
Little wrong done to the land and little loss of spirit. No bottles of alcohol to make the people drunk and lose theirselves. Tasmanian Tiger, just gone in the early 1900's!! Extinct!! What do you know about cultural respect and diversity when the option is controlled by Government!!! I am so angered by it everywhere I go I hear limitation and the root source is the governemtn laws and the ways of oppression!!

Give the Indigenous people back their rites and their rights, how does that happen? You leave the people alone!! you stop telling us what to do and how you have given us diversity. The Indigenous people of US, I can't speak for so I will speak for my own country and people instead.

4. They think diversity IS a conservative principle
Of course, they also think that "diversity" means being surprised when you don't hear people screaming for their "motherfucking iced tea!" and smoking crack in a black neighborhood resturaunt.

5. they praised inclusion but also put limits on it
which is a complaint that liberals have with the Democratic Party, that they seem to favor inclusion with no limits. So you include so many conservatives that the Democratic party is morphed into the "moderate Republican Party"

It would be sorta interesting if DU came up with a top ten, but I think some would insist on 10 of 10 and want to exclude those who only agree on 9 of 10.
