1. To do otherwise is simply hypocrisy.
Not only should you be ready to go, you should support a universal draft.

I have the same opinion of people send others to war from the comfort of their chairs regardless of their party affiliation.

17. This is true, but I was adding to Stinky's sentiment.
His statement is directed to those who support escalation. The last thing they want is to face the collateral damage.

10. Amen. Let MY family come home
They are tired and they are ready.
My brother is currently serving his 5th tour and this time--deployed directly from Iraq to Afghanistan without even coming stateside.
How many MORE tours do you expect him to serve?
My family is against the war.
We do NOT support escalation.
It's time to pony up--you support--send YOUR family members to the front lines. Mine are tired and worn out.

13. We had a talk with bro
lets just say that when hubby asked which of his two daughters he was willing to sacrifice, that killed that talk.

Problem is he's not dumb, but some people do buy the fear kool aid...

And he cannot tell us a thing. Hubby is a vet of the current insanity and when he looked at me I just told him a few of my war stories. We have very little tolerance for the BS but that is why we need a draft

Go ahead flame away. But it is damn easy to support it when it is others doing the killing and the dying.

21. Will DU have a problem if the wars drag on?
Remember how it was a frequent demand here for the bush daughters to enlist?

What if Obama's daughters reach that age before war is over?
(I don't want them over there - as I don't want to see anyones children there.)

I had a deferment. But back then I saw it as my duty to go serve cuz I believed all the bullshit about why Johnson had us over there.

Nobody today stays only a year like you did.

You seem to support this war. You okay with it?

33. Not in the fucking slightest.
But we saw after Vietnam what happened to the people we just abandoned.

That is the ONLY reason I think we should stay: Set it up so there isn't a mass slaughter like there was in VietNam.

I am not stupid enough to believe we can win a guerrilla war against a motivated indigenous population, particularly the Afghans, as they seem to have a talent and taste for it.

We CAN, however limit the damage after we go by helping with the infrastructure and the educational system. And maybe setting up security forces that, although corrupt and violent at least aren't religious psychotics beheading people in a sports stadium.

It's like the house my wife just inherited:

IT cannot be lived in because it is too toxic, It cannot be abandoned because she is responsible for it - So we have a mess we cannot walk away from, as ugly and dangerous as it is.

Looks like a hazmat suit and a wrecking bar.

40. even if
82% of the population want us to leave? Even though our very presence exacerbates the problem?

If we were there to help stabilize the place, we would never have supported Karzai all this time. We are flooding money and death into there like it has no value whatsoever. Spreading anger, hate and discord. The longer we are there the worse it will get, no matter how many troops we have. Afghanistan is not our responsibility, it never was. They didn't ask us to come there, but they've asked us to leave many times.

We should be leaving the country and apologizing to these people for fucking it up as much as we did.

I respect your service sir and your opinion, but i cannot disagree more with the latter of those.

Might help to save the broken healthcare thing too.

Or maybe best, draft the kids of families making over a million dollars a year. The ones that profit most from this war economy should be doing the most sacrificing.

44. I don't support stupid ass, misguided...
romper-stomper engagements around the planet. And I'm a historian, so I'll be goddamned if anyone's about to tell me I don't understand the history of what's at stake. I do. We royally fucked it up the first time we're never going to win because we NEVER pay fucking attention to the histories of countries we invade. Never.
So, instead of listening to this disaster of a lecture tonight, I'm going to watch Merry Christmas Charlie Brown, and have a beer.
I'm having a root canal tomorrow, which should be delightful.
