Polanski will enjoy broad freedoms during house arrest at his Alpine chalet
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/11/polanski-will-enjoy-broad-freedoms-during-house-arrest-at-his-alpine-chalet.html

When Roman Polanski is released on bail in the next few days to be under house arrest at his Alpine chalet, he will have much more freedom than he did at his Zurich-area jail cell, according to reports from Switzerland.

A Swiss justice officials was quoted by AFP and Swiss news media as saying Polanski would be allowed to make unlimited phone calls and have full access to e-mail and the Internet. Although he cannot leave his house, he can invite friends over and throw parties at the tony chalet in the ski resort of Gstaad.

"He will have no prison regime," Justice Ministry spokesman Falco Galli told AFP. "He is completely free to determine his daily schedule. It's also up to him to get in food and other supplies." . . .

Gstaad, a village of 2,500 with mountain views, has long been known as a celebrity hangout, having been home to Elizabeth Taylor, Roger Moore and David Niven, among others.

1. no shit
How much logic does it take to know that anyone would prefer to be under house arrest then in a jail cell because of the freedoms and comforts afforded by house arrest???

2. I have a better idea,
since I'm innocent, while he's an escaped convict, how about if he is house arrested in the shithole I live in, while I get the Alpine chalet?

7. complete crap
as usual. if you are in a collision, you are required to provide drivers license registration proof of insurance, and that's IT. also, in some states, you are required to render aid to the other party if they are injured by at least calling 911 if possible etc.

in NO jurisdiction i am aware of is a driver in a car accident compelled to give a statement or talk to police, apart from providing that info.

i have had at least 3 (that i can recall offhand) people refuse to give any statement after an accident, or talk to me at all. and no, they weren't arrested for that (one i arrested for DUI because they were).

tiger is not getting special treatment. it was a single car collision, and he's under no obligation to provide a statement to cops. nor would you
