Project Censored: The Thickening Sickening: charter schools as parasites on a public host
Written by Danny Weil World News Nov 27, 2009 The Thickening Sickening: charter schools as parasites on a host

...In fact, the apparent fraud and abuse seen in the growing charter movement over the last 18 years has truly been remarkable and usually unreported nationally; but the facts on the ground can be seen as testimony as to the effects of deregulation, the subsequent lacks of transparency and wholesale forfeiture of disclosure...

What are some of the factors that contribute to abuse and fraud within the charter school movement? They can be summarized:

*Accounting schemes that base payments to charter schools on ‘projected’ student enrollment figures;

*A lack of oversight by regulatory agencies in assuring that public monies be spent responsibly by charter authorizers and/or legislative bodies;

*Favorable legislation that encourages privatization, conflict of interests and lax regulation of charter schools;

*Nepotism, self-dealing and cozy financial and political relationships between charter school operators and financial speculators, relatives, and friends;

*A lack of transparency in public oversight of charter school finances and expenditures.

Accounting Schemes and Projected Enrollment: The Whole Thing is a Racket...

But that is the whole point, right? Dress up the charter schools as public choice in a privatized market when the reality is public rape...

1. Charter schools are not good for the body politic.
It is great for churning out non-critical cogs.
