MIT analysis backs Obama Plan (Concludes Americans Will Pay Less)
Source: Politico

A new analysis by a leading MIT economist provides new ammunition for Democrats as the Senate begins formally debating the historic health-reform bill being pushed by President Barack Obama.

The report concludes that under the Senate’s health-reform bill, Americans buying individual coverage will pay less than they do for today's typical individual market coverage, and would be protected from high out-of-pocket costs.

So Democrats will argue that under the Senate bill, Americans would pay less for more.

The new document arms Democrats with a response to the contention of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that the bill would mean “higher premiums, higher taxes, and massive cuts to Medicare.”

The report will be circulated to Capitol Hill this week. Read the four-page report here.

Gruber’s conclusion: “For those facing purchase in the non-group market, the … bill will deliver savings ranging from $200 for singles to $500 for families in today’s dollars – even without subsidies. The savings are much larger for lower income populations that receive premium credits.

3. While helpful, this won't make any difference
The fact is that the GOP isn't against this bill (or any bill, for that matter) based on its merits or lack thereof. They're against it merely because it is a democratic proposal. well, that plus the influence of all the bribes "campaign contributions" they receive from the affected crooks. They've made it no secret that they will oppose, on merely political grounds, any proposal made by any democrat.

5. It does make a difference to the independents
who might be influenced by the Republican negativism.

No, it won't decelerate that negativism, but it helps put the lie to it for those who really don't know.

That will go further toward the right/center reading it than it being on HuffPo or something.

12. Obviously the Republicans won't be swayed but, perhaps, it pulls the covers on the Blue Dogs
who claim to be screwing the American people in the name of "fiscal conservatism."

15. oh no! not credible objective analysis by top economists- that won't work for skeptics.
they only believe emotional rhetoric like "pulling the plug on gramma" and "death panels" and "corporate giveaway to the insurance industry"....
