CNN is really trying to strip Woods of his sponsorship, aren't they?
Edited on Sat Nov-28-09 03:18 PM by SoCalDem
All morning long they have been harping on this, and having all kinds of commentators on the phone giving their opinion on his sponsorship deals..

Even if it was an "argument" that pissed him off and distracted him, why on earth is CNN so focused on "how his sponsors will react"?

Would a sponsor really revoke his ad contracts because he had a non-alcohol related one-car dustup with a fireplug & a tree?

Personally, I am glad he was not hurt, and surely he can afford to replace the Escalade. I doubt that his neighbor's tree will die from a thump (it looked pretty stable )

Fine him for replacing the fireplug, and let him and his wife work out whatever they need to work out..

The "story" sounds fishy, but no one died, or was injured badly, and it;s really none of our business.. I don't think he "owes" anyone an explanation..well except for the cops..but even then, I'm not so sure what they would "charge" him with....that would hold up in court..

19. True, this does likely diminish his bargaining power on future gigs
It makes sense for the corporate types to get him at the lowest price they can.

8. They really have become totally irrelevant.
I used to kind of watch them but now I almost never turn my TV to them. In fact, I usually just find out what's going on from online sources because the media has gotten so whorish.

20. Also
I almost exclusively get my info online anymore, I go to Google to start, then check cnn site, then msnbc and usually come here, almost always DU is as informative as any other site on quite a lot of things.. At least when you use online sources you can pick and choose which stories interest you rather than having some dimwit so called "news" person deciding what you will hear and in which order...

6. They're probably doing damage control for their breathless gullibility
When new first broke out about the "incident", CNN played it up like Woods was possibly dying in the ICU. Now that it's been established the deal was about a husband/wife fight, they look like Balloon Boys suckers.

I have so damned much stored on my DVR, I've been wading through it.. Finally watched all the V episodes..last week I got caught up on Flash Forward..

I even have 3 or 4 schlocky Lifetime Movies to sample:)

11. This is the problem with 27/7 cable news
A minor news event takes on an importance of huge magnitude because there is nothing else to report. Some producer is sitting there thinking up angles to stretch out a story that should have been off the front page after it was determined Mr. Woods had no serious injuries and it wasn't alcohol related.

12. It only becomes a problem
if you turn it on. If one is desperate for entertainment, one can always give the cat a bath. Fun for the whole family, and guaranteed to stimulate conversation.

27. No this is a problem whether we turn it on or not.
Meaningless situations are exploited to the point they become major news. This is how FOX news exploits news and then of goes mainstream. Think of all the stupid stuff that was dredged up around Obama, which should not have been worth any mention on news programs and eventually occupied all the news airwaves. Think birth certificate, ACORN, czars, etc. All of these were non issues until they got major cable news exposure. I don't watch cable news, period.

How else to explain how his DUI was major news for USA Today, People, CNN, etc. Or his alleged pot smoking. And the issue of whether and to what extent it would impact his sponsorships.

During the phone conversation on Friday, Tiger told his friend, "I have to run to Zales to get a 'Kobe Special.'" The person on the other end of the phone asked Tiger what a "Kobe Special" was. The reply -- "A house on a finger."

25. Black Americans are fun targets for CNN. This happens over and over. They get something and they
keep it alive forever in peak and resurrected modes.

Larry Craig? Morally wrong the way he handled it and they conspire to kill the story.

There are many examples.

Love them while they are up. Vultures when they are down.

Easy targets for a company like CNN and the other Republican networks.
