Jon Meacham (TOOL): Why Cheney Should Run

Why Cheney Should Run

Jon Meacham: "I think we should be taking the possibility of a Dick Cheney bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 more seriously, for a run would be good for the Republicans and good for the country. (The sound you just heard in the background was liberal readers spitting out their lattes.)"

"Why? Because Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people."

A new Draft Cheney website is trying to convince the former vice president to run.

3. the 'will' of the people was solidly against the creep when he was in office
His 'conviction' there was to lie, repeatedly and often . . . judge that, Meacham.

If Cheney ones there will be "no ambiguity about the will of the people."

7. Yes. Please run, Mr. Dick!
And choose your daughter as your running mate!

That would be awesome!

11. Jon Meacham, no tool, is subtle. Check it out:
"Why? Because Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people."

I read it, iow, "a Cheney run will show for once and for all that America doesn't want him or anything he stands for". YMMV

13. I think even the suggestion darth should run is beyond my
comprehension, so the rest didn't matter. He could have been insinuating that it would be futile, but I couldn't get past the suggestion.

12. babylonsister, I'm so sorry if I killed your thread.
:(

If you check out what Meacham puts out in Newsweek, I think you'd be surprised. He did a lovely tribute to Teddy and he's been on CSPAN talking about a number of Dem leaders in a more positive way than many Dems. Having said that, he is an old school Republican, not one of these new fangled alternate reality PR whores, afaik.

And now, I'll go quietly . . .

15. Ha! No problem, it doesn't matter. I find I like him
'sometimes', but not always, and not just on this issue. During the primaries I recall him saying many things I fervently disagreed with.

16. I think it's a clear statement on the state of today's GOP that anyone is even seriously suggesting
dragging that dude out of retirement.

Guess Sanford, Palin, Jindal, etc. etc. just aren't cutting it, huh?

Ya think?
