Early holiday shopping has merchants optimistic, sales show signs of strength.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The nation's merchants -- both in stores and online -- appeared pleased with the first results from the holiday shopping weekend that was kicked off in the predawn darkness of Black Friday and continued early Saturday.

6. "Seriously good" isn't good enough...
...to silence the doomers. The doom is pretty apparent, and will still be around after a holiday season of whistling in the dark.

I'm afraid that this economy can't be made healthy just by wishing, or even by more direct stimulation. I'll hope that retailers can afford to add some jobs.

7. "even by more direct stimulation"
So just how did Obama take an economy that was tanking at -6.4% (GDP) in January to an economy growing at 2.4% (GDP) in the 3rd quarter this year?

Direct stimulus

Wishing won't make this fact go away.

8. This is not a healthy economy.
Wishing won't make it so.

The Obama Administration and a Democratically-led Congress have proven that they are more competent at steering the Failmobile away from the ditches, sure, but they lack the courage--and the time, to be fair--to press for the overhaul the engine badly needs.

9. It's the worst recession since the Great Depression and unemployment has
not exceeded the levels seen during the Reagan Recession of the early eighties (10.8%)

Thanks to the Cowardly Obama Stimulus Package.

Boo hoo

10. You're trying to praise our president. I get it.
It doesn't matter that he seems to be the most capable politician to take the Oval Office in, perhaps, ever. As long as he, and we, fail to address the fundamentals, we will never have a healthy economy.
