WOW! What a 'small world'...(True story but sarcastic/trite)
Many many years ago, I rented space in my office to a pop-psychologist who has moved out of Philly and gone on to be featured often on Nancy Grace(ugh) and other shows emanating from NYC. This psychologist was interviewed often for Channel 6 in Philly by none other than Dave Roberts, who just announced his retirement the other day after decades at the station. Dave's son is David Boreanaz who actually used the real family name, unlike his Dad. This younger Dave had had an affair, apparently, with this Uchitel gal with whom Tiger Woods apparently ALSO had an affair. So I guess I'm 4 people removed from Tiger Woods.

For those who want to know: One day I walked into my waiting room and there was none other than Kevin Bacon with his father. The podiatrist next door to me, whom Bacon Sr. was seeing, was not in yet and his door was locked. So they came in to sit down. Very gracious. So there are 0 degrees of separation there...

3. Dave Roberts started out in Buffalo as Dave Thomas.
When I was a younger, he & his family lived directly behind my parents house on the next block.

7. I had Promo at my 5th birthday party.
Totally disillusioned me. First, to have Mr Dave on the TV in the morning, then throwing a frisbee around with him in the afternoon. Then to find out Promo was just a guy walking around in a garbage can.

9. I'm still jealous...
Funny thing is that I lived in the Philadelphia area between '88-'92 and there he was again! There were a few ex-Buffalo people there, Don Polak and Gary Papa (RIP)

11. When did this happen?
He used to crack me up!

When he was in Buffalo, he did this end of the year report to see if any predictions from the National Enquirer had come true. The bit led in with him cleaning a bird cage and pulling out a crap covered copy of the National Enquirer from the bottom. He sees the cover and is overwhelmed with curiosity and opens the tabloid to check it out.

You kind of had to see it for yourself... had me chuckling.

12. A couple years ago I think...
hard to tell, time goes so fast...

his reports were infantil-y surreal...not in a bad way...but he'd become a little predictable; when he'd do a segment, say on something like how they make milk the way they do (just making this up), you'd see him clumsily milking a cow...but in fact he was supposed to be really competent on set and hard to work for b/c he was so exacting. Sort of like Andy Griffith...people thought he was an 'aw shucks' guy, but not hardly, as they say.

The newscasters would all be laughing after his segment whihc closed the show about onece a week, but I think they were laughing at him or the viewers, or just staged, because you could tell they'd all seen it about 5 times.

5. I don't think you're even close to Tiger Woods.
I assume you know the son, David, the one with the real family name.

But you don't know the woman with whom he had the affair, is that right?

If so, unless you had a hot relationship with young David, your Kevin Bacon-style degree of separation is about 359.

8. You don't understand the game...
Edited on Sat Nov-28-09 01:11 PM by PCIntern
it's not who actually knows anyone...Google "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" and you'll see how it works...or don't....

On edit: Oh yeah...and "Welcome to DU"...and one hint...maybe before you start in on long-term posters, you take your time and try to "get it" around here...you'll make more friends that way...assuming that's what you'd like to do!

13. Thank you.
I "get" the game very clearly, but thank you for your version of it. Edifying in a needful way.

As for your reference to "long-term posters," that's not anything that interests me. I am interested in the post, not in the longevity of the poster. Substance, I believe, is far more interesting than the limits of the process.

But, to each his own, and if having an association, however fanciful and tenuous, with a celebrity makes you happy, that's small enough gratification in this complicated world. Congratulations.
